Ahleon Neutral Newbie May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Carl's Jnr might be responding to this new world of low-carb eating! They have a low-carb burger which is lettuce wrapping the beef without the buns. I had one last for supper...heehee! But then...we do not know where that beef comes from. I think my own triple burger taste so much much better! Hmm...maybe next time friends gathering, i will suggest go Carl's Jnr for makan! ↡ Advertisement

Ahleon Neutral Newbie May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 I cheated once too..just for experimenting. Went to Banana Leaf and wack on curry fish head with 2 servings of briyani rice! And guess wat?...my weight went up 3kg for the nex 2 days...and i took 1 week to bring it down to b4 the briyani meal. 3 days after the meal..went for blood checkup, trigercides lvl/HDL ratio shoot up to 0.8 from 0.5. So lesson learnt and never will i want to touch carbs again.
Topgun Neutral Newbie May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Seems like the detrimental effects or the damage to the hard work/effort is almost immediate when we 'cheat' even with one meal... Like as if the insulin spike induced and reaction is violent
Skunk Clutched May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Carbs require the body to absorb alot of water to digest it. It's mainly water gain...but yeah carbs r evil!!!
Xtrocious 1st Gear May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Being a former carb and sugar addict myself, I understand the "boring" thing. But if you eat clean, your taste buds will change. I find that if I cheated once in a while, I kept craving for carbs and sugar. Once I experimented with zero starch/sugar for one month, constantly not allowing myself to break the rules, I found that after that month, I found that my craving for those food became very weak. It was not enough to make me eat them. My thought process is, I have a huge list of things that I can eat (as Skunk described), all of them delicious and nutritious and won't make me fat or diabetic. Why would I want to eat bread or rice? If you think about it, bread/rice/pasta is literally tasteless by themselves. You need to combine them with the yummy real foods, and that's where the danger comes in, when you combine carbs with fat. You are very right - mind over carbo... So far, I am into my 6th week of no-carb diet and food that I used to crave no longer attracts me... Last night, my wife tried to tempt me by eating my "favourite" char kway teow in front of me but I politely declined...I only had 2 hardboiled eggs with butter cos I wasn't very hungry... The only time I "cheated" was during my birthday last week - went to eat with my wife at her favourite ramen place - had a small bowl to humour her and felt like puking after that... Skunk Clutched May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/low-car...-vs-ancel-keys/ guys, take a look at Ancel Keys at 100 yrs old, compared to Jack Lalanne at 94 years old LOL. Jack Lalanne in his youth, advocated a diet of steak, eggs and bacon heh heh. Although now he appears brainwashed into loving fruit juices, we can see how very hard exercise and proper nutrition in youth can lead to not only a long, but healthy life, as compared to old and sickly. Skunk Clutched May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 http://twitpic.com/1nasvt Just see how impt it is to eat innards regularly. I see Beef Liver on sale at Giant Supermarket, but never buy before...too big packet...i always buy pig liver...smaller in amount and more convenient. Anyway, humans have been known to starve to death inside tropical jungles surrounded by vegetation. I'm sure nobody will starve to death with rampaging herds of animals around. I used to be such an advocate of eating vege for good health...turns out they're so poor in nutrition, and that little bit of nutrition is hardly bio-available due to phyto-toxins and other plant mechanisms. Now i only eat vege for fun...for the taste n texture.
Topgun Neutral Newbie May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Jack L is really an inspiration. An excerpt of an interview done when he was 91, 5 years ago: Share Guide: You were born in September of 1914, therefore you are now 91. You are a great inspiration to those of us who hope to age well. Jack LaLanne: You have to work at living, period. You

It's an interview with heart surgeon, Dr Rob Thomson on diabetes and what he thinks about health, cholesterol, sugar, carbs, fat...etc. Folks who want to know how to prevent diabetes, treating diabetes if you already have it, how to eat for health in general, what is the real story behind cholesterol, eating fat...etc should listen to this interview. It's a good one with a lot of common concerns addressed. The thing that stood out to me was his opinion that carbs are far WORSE than sugar. He says eating a bowl of pasta is the same as eating a bowl of sugar to your body. But you can easily eat 2 bowls of pasta, but sugar is so sweet that you can't eat much of it. So carbs are downright dangerous... http://www.thelivinlowcarbshow.com/shownot...ch-episode-357/ Edited May 17, 2010 by Ticklish8

It's the size and hence the amount of calories. They can have low carb burger, but if the size is just as humongous, the calories as still there. And that causes fat. I have never taken any carl junior burger in my life. It's just too big and too unhealthy. Edited May 17, 2010 by Starry
Skunk Clutched May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 They can have low carb burger, but if the size is just as humongous, the calories as still there. And that causes fat. Evidence had been quoted repeatedly in this thread, that calories have no direct relationship with body-fat. Regularly, the days that i eat more than 3000 calories, are the days that i drop the most weight. Bro CBS even more power, some days he eats 5000 calories....he really win liao LOL see this video but i do agree burger joints are bad...it's the hidden carbs in the sauces, marinades, not to mention the seed oils they use...eeeee

Congrats! A lot of times, people don't believe that carbs are the cause of many health problems due to convenience, advice from mainstream medicine that treats symptoms instead of cause, peer pressure...etc. But there are real and tangible health benefits that can be had by carb restriction. In the case of yourself, a simple reduction of the amount caused such improvement that your doc is ok with halving your diabetes meds. Now you know the "trick", it should be easy to keep your diabetes under control. Besides that, I can say there are a whole host of other healthy goodness that comes with it. Chickenbackside 1st Gear May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Nah. The body is not a furnace. It is a chemistry lab. Fat storage is a hormonal event. Set up the right conditions for fat loss, you can eat more calories while you lose weight. Set up the right conditions for fat storage, you can exercise hours a day and eat very little and your body will fiercely hold on to all the fat available and make new fat from whatever little food that's eaten to be stored. Skunk Clutched May 17, 2010 Share May 17, 2010 Quoted by who? Just because some people eat mega calories and they didn't put on fat and that means there is no relationship? there is a relationship, but an indirect one, since carbs also contain calories. But there is no direct relationship. Excess calories are not stored as bodyfat IF AND ONLY IF a person does not eat excess carbs to stimulate insulin that will store unused fuel as bodyfat. Quoted by scientists, doctors and biochemists. Gary Taubes (Good Calories Bad Calories), Dr Eades and others. I quoted myself and bro CBS only as an example, but u r right, we cannot rely on annecdotal evidence. Did u click on the youtube video? There was also an experiment done in UK, where "naturally thin people" were told to eat above a certain number of calories a day, and don't exercise above a certain amount. They gained minimal weight....and weight gain does not correspond to the excess caloric intake. So it's not a direct relationship....as in, not so simple as "calories in, calories out".
