Agentwilson 1st Gear January 26, 2010 Share January 26, 2010 Ok, another scenario. If lane 2 is full of cars at 80km/h and I am on lane 1 at 88km/h, technically I am "overtaking" those cars on lane2. So I am not hogging right? pls use ur own discretion. driving is not calculate maths problems... not hard n fast rules... its an interaction with other road users/cars/motorbikes... cheers! ↡ Advertisement

Vhtfhwlego Supercharged January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 I like these drivers as the faster they clear the traffic junction, more vehicle behind him can clear too. It is not taught in driving lessons here as everyone say drive slow but in Europe, drivers are being taught to accerale more if that you are the first car as those behind can clear traffic junction faster. Those who slow crawl to junctions, sometimes you will be crawlling so slow that the second vehicle keeps holding on to the brakes and the third had to stop totally and once the gap is widen, then they can move abit further up behind the second car. That is why there is alot of stop~go~stop at traffic lights.
Itsec 2nd Gear January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 i always kena nagged x10 cos i follow closely... but i'm not a tail-gater... i keep my speed ard 100-110 and try to keep pace with fast moving cars... as those will clear the road for me...however, it ends up giving me way to me... i do feel safer behind them than those road hoggers... u neber know when they will initiate braking to put u off...

Thargor 1st Gear January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 On CTE...I usually stick to 90 or at max 95....so I try not to drive at lane 1....typically on lane 2...but if I still get tail gate...honestly i dont care and will not move out to lane 3.... If you are a typically tail-gater...honestly will you really go ramp the fellow's car boot? I dont think so...
Alechi 2nd Gear January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 I think they want to overtake cars who are rolling to the red light to stop .. they must have thought that those rolling along cars will be super rd hoggers, so might as well overtake first. another qn i like to point out is why do drivers like to step on pedal and cheong, then BRAKE at the traffic light?? when its obvious its already red from a few hundred M away?? cannot just let the car roll to the red light and stop? thats what i do usually and some cars/ most will rather change lanes and zoom past and then brake... i wonder got prize reach the line 1st?? Alechi 2nd Gear January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 Anyway, today overstepped on accerator while overtaking on ECP near Marina exit ...towards rochor Didn't realise that car already going at 125km/hr ... quickly off pedal and speed went down to 100km/hr in a few secs Hopefully no TP caught ... otherwise tio court case ... Extramint Clutched January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 (edited) today, after being the first car on first lane on AYE, i accelerated to around 110.. the car behind took awhile to accelerate den this MPV from 2nd lane cut in, create a 5-8 car gap dunno for what. den within this gap, another taxi cut in and create another big gap. i think both joined in first lane and stayed at 80-90. the initial group of cars behind me started to overtake dangerously on the left 1 by 1 and all flash/horn/hand gestures.. lol. the thing is, they don't wanna give way even after signal/flash/horn/etc. and most probably the distances between these cars are very minimal. idiots. Extramint Clutched January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 true.. but supposing (just a thought), the 1st car is driving a supercar, normal acceleration is peanuts to him, from 90 to 120.. chey. but 2nd car is a normal family sedan, there's gonna be a lag. thats when idiots come into the lane thinking have space then just slot in and road hog. will cause tailgate and overtaking on the left dangerously which might cause accidents. the thing that gets me heated up the most is (if i suay suay belong to the grp stuck behind road hogger): they able to remain so indifferent and nonchalant.. act like nothing happen. Extramint Clutched January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 yeah. its fortunate when u kena road hog when almost reaching destination. i live in the extreme east side, sometimes i enter PIE wanna go west or central, kena road hog all the way.. LLST. i wished i had redbull in my car, let it drink so it can fly. on a side note, during peak hours on KJE, try to abstain from overtaking on right / left side unless really need to. those malaysian bikes dont give a damn one. they are like flies. i've seen before multiple bikes collision just beside/near my car before on KJE. its hilarious, no one got injured and many small parts on the ground afterwards. cuz all of them speeding and weaving in/out. it's almost like in china. when you jaywalk, there's a big truck coming, if he wants you to get out of his way, he will accelerate. he wldnt care. all these people dont care, they expect you to care instead. Revolc81 Neutral Newbie January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 jam brake best! :) claim them until they DIE!!!! ARGH... hate tailgater. no manners Childish. You will endanger others life. If they tailgate, just them them pass. If you have the time, go lane 2, it will be a smoother ride, trust me.
Krado Clutched January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 Actually I found the best way to defeat the tailgater. 1) Don't slow down. 2) Don't brake. 3) Keep your pace until you reach a point where you can filter into the left lane safely 4) Watch the tailgater before you filter left, he/she may already have planned to overtake you at the "safe spot". 5) Most importantly stay cool, calm and collected. I was traveling on the TPE heading towards Tampines recently when a 407SW ( I think, only had a glimpse of it) came right up to my butt to the point that I couldn't see its headlights. As I was reaching the Pasir Ris exit I saw a gap and I signaled left. Just before I thought it was safe I had a second glance at the rear mirror and I saw a pair of lights disappearing to the left, the 407SW came right up by my side within seconds and then cut in right in front of me. Well I'd say he/she did have some skills in knitting (weaving in and out ain't that easy), and I got to IKEA in one piece. I doubt the TP would believe it if anyone said "I broke the speed limit cause there was another guy tailgating me!" Defensive driving is your best defense, absolutely. Zac Neutral Newbie January 27, 2010 Share January 27, 2010 That is the most dumb thing u did, if there's accident...the one shud be blame is you This action is not dumb, This is to sent a message to the tailgater that he/she is following to close. I also encounter one by a Altis driven by a female on the left lane exiting to Bartley. She can overtake me but she chose to see my ass so after I tap my brake, she back off.
