V2-g Neutral Newbie February 9, 2010 Share February 9, 2010 For aftermarket adjustable Camber bolts, do not go for cheap type; so far the only reliable camber bolts is 'SPC' which Kenny is selling or Stamford Tyres. Many years back bought & installed a set from a JB shop on my old Nissan March (Setup is B+G springs & Yellow Koni Shocks). 1 side of camber bolt gave way after 6 months; and also the alignment & camber setting is not done up professionally, unable to achieve even camber on both sides. Kenny is an expert in this field and his only business is purely doing wheel alignment. thanks for the advise... seems like it's time for me to patronize local workshops liao.. btw, any idea of an avg price i'm looking at?? ↡ Advertisement

Mr_biscuit 3rd Gear March 4, 2010 Share March 4, 2010 U are welcome. Back in 2003 when I'm driving a Nissan March, I also had my front camber done up across the Causeway. Less than 6 months, the right camber bolt give way, luckily I'm safe. Now, I only trust SPC camber bolts, have used them on my ex- Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio and also my current Impreza and my dad's Lancer. Definitely good stuffs, never settle for 2nd best. Lethalstrike Turbocharged March 4, 2010 Share March 4, 2010 On stock suspension on almost all cars, the manufacturer would preset it at positive camber, and this is non-adjustable, am still puzzled what's the rationale of having positive camber. Many cars today even after lowered with springs or coilovers, the camber largely remain positive too. The only possible solution to achieve negative camber is by means of adjustable camber kits or adjusting the camber plates found on many coilovers on the pillow mounts. Main reason for having more negative camber (Front) is to reduce understeer, and this is beneficial to almost all FF or AWD cars. For RWD cars, usually the rear will be set to more negative camber instead. Usually to also acheive more negative cambers (rear) on cars today, cars with rear Torison beam suspension are unable to do that. Cars with rear Multi-Link (Independant) suspension setup, either use adjustable camber bolts or camber kit (More ex). Bro, i think one of the reason why cars are set with positive camber when stock is to induce understeering characteristics in the handling of a car. Understeer is deem to be safer and more predictable under normal driving conditions for the average folks. Another reason which i can think of could be more even tire wear. Aggressive negative camber will wear the insides of a tire pretty fast.
Mr_biscuit 3rd Gear March 4, 2010 Share March 4, 2010 Hi Bro, Do agree with your statements except the 1 on more tyre wear with negative camber as compared to positive camber settings. As many cars in Singapore are parked at MSCP daily, many drivers would realised that the front outer tyres would wear out more due to the vehicle having to turn right & right frequently. With a conservative negative camber setting, not only will drivers achieve even tyre wear, but also better handling when negotiating at bends or corners. My setup is F:-1.5 deg, R:-1.2 deg for 2 years and I'm on my 2nd set of 17" tyres. So far, my tyre wear is uniformed. My dad's Lancer on Vogtland lowered springs, the setup is F: -1.3 deg, R: Stock for the past 1 year plus. His Falken ST115 tyres' wear are very even/uniform too, given his passive driving habits. Btw, both our cars' are parked at Open carparks at Residential & Workplaces.
Lethalstrike Turbocharged March 5, 2010 Share March 5, 2010 Hi bro, Yes, usually conservative negative camber settings will do good for most cars. Like for you and your dad's car, the settings seems to work even better than stock. I assume both cars are still on stock suspension ?

Like for you and your dad's car, the settings seems to work even better than stock. I assume both cars are still on stock suspension ? Both our cars have changed to new OEM KYB Excel-G shock absorbers. I'm using JIC Magic lowered springs, and my dad is using Vogtland lowered springs. ↡ Advertisement
