But if unnable to shift to neutral, at least shift to L2 or L (normal 4speed auto gearbox got this but not sure for this ES350 model) at least can slow down from max speed. then continue to escape like jump out from the car~! u get injuries rather than tragedy...

on a serious note... i would like to remind EVERYONE here who drives... be it your car, your company's car especially.... please send it for regular maintanence...... check for faults early.... always make sure it is in tip top condition.... your life depends on it...

In my 1st car, I used a crappy floor mat that wasn't cut properly to fit the car and my accelerator pedal got stuck quite a few times like that. A quick flick of the foot and the accelerator pedal comes unstuck. What the hell is wrong with people that leave the accelerator pedal stuck under a floor mat?! Eventually (after a few years) I got around to buying a 3M floor mat with a cut out that made sure it didn't interfere with the accelerator. My 2nd car's accelerator pedal was stiff enough that even if it got under the mat, it'd push the mat away. Haha

 

FYI, even with the engine off, there should be enough vacuum left in the brake booster for 1 more power-assisted brake. Turn off your car and press the brake pedal once - it should still go in easily. Only when you release that and press it again then you'll find that you'll need to stomp on the pedal. And turning the car without power-steering is actually not difficult if the car's speeding.

 

And what of the handbrakes?! They usually operate a separate drum-in-disc mechanism, so it's not likely that they'll be cooked even if the usual disc system has faded. Not enough to completely stop the car, but they should slow it down somewhat.

should not off engine when still in motion:

- brake until stop then put to neutral (fighting engine power) or

- put to neutral, then brake (rpm surge)

 

when not in motion then off engine

I not scare acc pedal jam, I only scare that brake "not eating"... how ah? \

I remember last time my dad took us out, car full load, then he exclaimed " uh oh..." we all exclaimed back "WHAT!?" Brake not working... luckily he didn't travel fast. he engaged low gear and slowly pull hand brake and slide to the grass padded road side (in MY). Later found out the brake hose rub against the tyre and all brake fluid leaked out, thus no brake at all.

Now I got this habit everytime check if the brake fluid hose far enough away from the tyre side wall.
