  1. Hi All, I'm having this problem for some time as in while travelling in gear, when I lift my foot off the accelerator, there is this whining noise and its seems to be from the auto tramsmission gearbox....some kind of sharp engine brake noise, very annoying. Car is 6 yrs old. Once I just step on accerelator slightly to keep car going, the sound disappears. I lift off pedal, sound comes back immed. I know its not wheel bearings or belts (both air-con and alternator belts hv been replaced). Hope that some forumers can help feedback what is the cause?
  2. How many drivers here use right foot for stepping accelerator and brake pedal? How many use left foot to step brake and right foot to step accelerator? Believe it or not, the correct way is to use right foot only! Quite shocking to know some of my friends are driving wrongly...
  3. http://nepp.nasa.gov/whisker/background/index.htm http://nepp.nasa.gov/WHISKER/ http://nepp.nasa.gov/WHISKER/reference/tec...-app-sensor.pdf Check out the important PDF article about whiskers causing pedal sensor to fail. I think everyone should get their sensors checked once in a while to ensure its working properly. Imagine you step on accelerator, nothing happens and all of a sudden the car just launches forward (going out of control). It can be dangerous.
  4. Hi all i have a Gen2 about 6 years old. Sometimes i encounter a behaviour with my car. When my car stopped at a junction and when i wanted to move off, i stepped on the accelerator the car will vibrate (like those manual cars going to stall) and there's no throttle at all. But when i release the pedal, the car continues to move slowly normally in Drive gear mode. i noticed that when i try to step more on the pedal when moving off or in very slow speed (probably in 1st gear), i will not experience this. This behaviour is getting more frequent. Everytime i need to switch off the engine and switch on again den i can drive off. i just went for my servicing last month where i changed the engine oil and automatic gear oil. anyone knows what might be the cause of this? Thank You
  5. just now i realised that when i floor the accelerator pedal, my car do not react in the usual manner. It seems to pause for a while before reacting and picking up to change gear. Anyone can help? i am driving a 3 year old auto mx5
  6. Taken from Augustman.com Cool idea, it would be great if manual cars can be retrofitted also. do away with heel toe braking :) LINK
  7. Apr 7, 2010 Nissan recalls 25,000 cars TOKYO - CARMAKER Nissan is to recall more than 25,000 vehicles in Japan due to accelerator pedal defects, the company said on Wednesday. The recall of 25,024 vehicles came on top of the company's worldwide recalls for nearly 540,000 vehicles, most of them in the United States, over brake pedal defects and faulty fuel gauges. The company decided there was a risk that gas pedals in affected cars could return slowly from a depressed position due to oil clogging up the controlling mechanism, Nissan spokesman Mitsuru Yonekawa said. 'All the vehicles subjected to the recall are equipped with the brake override system, which stops the car even when the gas pedal hasn't completely returned,' he added. The latest recall covers five passenger car models - the Cefiro, Bluebird, Sunny, Primera and Tino - manufactured between Aug 1998 and Aug 2002 and only affects the Japanese market, Mr Yonekawa said. The company has received 43 complaints about the defects, including an accident that caused a minor injury in February, the company and the Japanese transport ministry said. -- AFP http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/A...ory_511523.html
  8. Read a tragic accident resulted from a jammed accelerator. Toyota/Lexus probably in deep trouble now... http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story...205-196840.html If ever your accelerator jammed: - slammed on your brakes (there will be alot of smoke) - stay calm - put gear into Neutral (RPM will surge) - turn off ignition drive safe...

  12. A qn from a friend of mine. When depressing the accelerator (from 1K-2Krpm), there is a sound from underneath the car that sounded like something's choking? Anything above 2Krpm is ok. What could be the cause. Car : Hyundai Accent.
  13. Hi guys... I noticed that for the accelerator...sometimes it is stiff...but sometimes it is ok. Because of this, i feel very reluctant to go back to SA because it seems like a random problem... Now after about 2-3 weeks or so, I noticed that if I use Esso 5000 petrol, the accelerator is ok. If I use SPC RON98 petrol, it's stiff. If I use Shell 95 petrol, it's stiff, but not as bad as the SPC petrol... What is going on here? Maybe Optra owners should try that Esso 5000 petrol and see if it makes their car lighter and smoother....
  14. Dear all, I have been driving my new ride for 2.5 months but realised there is a 'eeee' sound when I depressed my brake. However, this only happens on and off. During the 1st 1000km servicing I told the service guy about it but was told it would be difficult to detect reason behind the sound as it only happens on and off. Recently, this sound has become more frequent but not to the extend of giving a sound every time i depressed the brake. The worse is, now the accelerator also gives this sound on and off. I have just clocked slightly above 4000km now, do you think i should go straight for the servicing or wait till 5000km? Btw, i am driving a corolla 1.5 auto car. Can anyone please give any advise or have encountered the same problem before? thanks.
  15. Saw the ad in Wheels Asia Magazine, anyone used it before?
