  1. Is this considered invasion of privacy? I wonder if they inform the residents before inspecting. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/technology/heady-days-use-of-drones-to-detect-defects-on-hdb-blocks-takes-10599070
  2. It's my first time buying a property, encountered problems with the defects rectification process and the mgt. Appreciate advice from experienced property buyers. Condo developer is a big established one, didn't expect the unit to be handed over in a bad and uncompleted condition. Moreover TOP of this condo has been delayed for 4 months. Among many other defects, the kitchen cabinet has many misalignments, a drawer track wasn't installed and was lying in the drawer (see pics), discoloration of cabinet surfaces, deep scratches on solid table top and stainless steel backing. Skirting missing. Chips on bathroom basin top. Marble flooring in living room was not polished and looks used. Dents on doors. After joint inspection with construction supervisor and developer Rep, I handed a key to them to do defects. Few days later I checked, nth has been done as expected. But neighbour who already moved in alerted that the workers have been entering my unit at 9+pm, wearing t-shirts and shorts, since the day I handed a key to the construction supervisor. I called defects team the next day and was advised to email my complaint. As expected, no reply nor response. Though they did a few minor defects. The big items like flooring etc all left undone. Only 2 weeks left before the one month defect rectification deadline is up, have a feeling they may tell me that those are not defects or not able to rectify. Or they may request more time though I already told them I need vacate my current residence by June. Though I can rectify the defects on my own after the one month and claim from developer, I'm not sure what complications may arise. Like developer not honouring the claim? I'm gg to meet a Rep from construction team regarding the defects. What stance should I take? Anyone with experience to advise?
  3. http://www.hdbspeaks.sg/fi10/fi10336p.nsf/cw/Defectsinnewflats?OpenDocument you know, for the obscene prices that we are paying for uneven walls, and multiple defects, this is one ballsy reply to all the complaints raised and shown on the net~!!!
  4. [extract] J.D Power and Associates has released the result of the study on the overall dependability of three-year vehicles sold in the US. Some 31,000 car owners of 2009 model-year vehicles were polled regarding the problems they encountered with their ride over the last 12 months. From the 32 brands included in the survey, 25 improved their scores with Lexus topping the chart with 86 problems per 100 vehicles (89 PP100). This is followed by Porsche with 98 PP100; Cadillac with 104 PP100; Toyota with 104 PP100 and Scion with 111 PP100. Another feather in Lexus
  5. Mazda to recall over 72,000 cars due to defects Posted: 25 November 2010 1613 hrs TOKYO : Japanese automaker Mazda Motor said Thursday it would recall more than 72,000 cars at home and overseas due to a fuel pump defect that may cause their engines to stall. In Japan, Mazda will recall a total of 28,238 units of its Premacy and Biante models produced between June last year and April this year, a company spokesman said. It will exchange for free fuel pump components that may corrode due to moisture being accidentally trapped inside the pump during air tightness inspections in the factory. "The problem may lead to an engine failure in the worst case," the spokesman said. The company will also recall some 44,000 Premacy models overseas mostly in North America, Europe and China, where it is known as the Mazda 5, due to the same problem, "following each country's regulations," the spokesman said. Japan's top automakers have seen hundreds of thousands of recalls in recent months but none more affected than Toyota, the world's biggest car maker, which has pulled around 12 million units over the past year.
  6. Documents that were submitted by Toyota to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in March and obtained by Automotive News reportedly show that Toyota knew of dangerous safety defects on its vehicles as early as February, 2006. The first documented issue was of a 2005 Toyota Prius that experienced floor mat interference with the accelerator. The company-supplied timeline reportedly shows that it received its first evidence of sticky gas pedals five months later, but Toyota claims that the defect was unrepeatable and couldn't be duplicated, and the automaker reportedly opted to "monitor the situation in the field." Since automakers are required to issue recalls within five days of finding a safety defect, the timeline documentation seems to validate NHTSA's recent $16.4 million fine levied against the Japanese automaker. Other documentation obtained by NHTSA and published in the Detroit Free Press includes an email from former Toyota executive Irv Miller to his superiors that shows that Toyota may have known about recall issues far earlier than the recalls were ordered. Toyota has two weeks to decide whether to fight the fine or pay up. NHTSA has been investigating the timeliness with which Toyota recalled the 8 million vehicles for floor mat and pedal sticking issues for several months.
  7. On Monday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced it was fining Toyota $16.4 million for failing to recall vehicles due to faulty accelerator pedals in a timely fashion. Toyota has two weeks to either contest or pay the fine, but an e-mail obtained by the Detroit Free Press shows that it may be best for the Japanese automaker to quickly pay the fine and move on. The document in question is an e-mail from Irv Miller, a now-retired public relations executive for the automaker's U.S. operations, and it shows that Toyota may have been aware of sticking gas pedals well before the company recalled 2.3 million vehicles to correct the potentially dangerous defect. Under federal law, automakers have five days after finding a safety defect before issuing an official recall. Miller cautioned in his email that the automaker is not "protecting our customers by keeping this quiet. The time to hide on this one is over." Miller then went on to make absolutely clear that he was talking about unintended acceleration issues by adding "WE HAVE A tendency for MECHANICAL failure in accelerator pedals." The odd cadence of CAPS was apparently used by Miller for emphasis. Miller was apparently so concerned with top U.S. executive Yoshi Inaba and U.S. sales boss Jim Lentz's January meeting with NHTSA that he also wrote Toyota "better just hope that they can get NHTSA to work with us in coming to a workable solution that does not put us out of business." The Freep also reports that among the 70,000 documents gathered by NHTSA during its investigation was evidence that Toyota warned 31 European governments and Canada of the pedal problems as early as September, 2009. It reportedly even went as far as providing a service bulletin with instructions for repairing the pedals, but didn't issue a recall for sticking accelerator pedals in the U.S. until January 21, 2010. Miller's e-mail could well make fighting that $16.4 million fine a really bad idea, but the larger looming issue may be that his words appear to show that Toyota wasn't acting in the best interest of its extremely loyal customers. It's a good thing Miller is (suddenly) retired, because he probably wasn't going to be the most popular guy in the office this week.
  8. Apr 7, 2010 Nissan recalls 25,000 cars TOKYO - CARMAKER Nissan is to recall more than 25,000 vehicles in Japan due to accelerator pedal defects, the company said on Wednesday. The recall of 25,024 vehicles came on top of the company's worldwide recalls for nearly 540,000 vehicles, most of them in the United States, over brake pedal defects and faulty fuel gauges. The company decided there was a risk that gas pedals in affected cars could return slowly from a depressed position due to oil clogging up the controlling mechanism, Nissan spokesman Mitsuru Yonekawa said. 'All the vehicles subjected to the recall are equipped with the brake override system, which stops the car even when the gas pedal hasn't completely returned,' he added. The latest recall covers five passenger car models - the Cefiro, Bluebird, Sunny, Primera and Tino - manufactured between Aug 1998 and Aug 2002 and only affects the Japanese market, Mr Yonekawa said. The company has received 43 complaints about the defects, including an accident that caused a minor injury in February, the company and the Japanese transport ministry said. -- AFP http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/A...ory_511523.html

  10. Just 1 hour ago, news stated that Honda and Mazda cars are being recalled for retrofitting for defects. Here is the report:: TOKYO - Japanese automakers Honda and Mazda said on Thursday they will recall for free repairs a total of 861,000 cars they have sold at home and abroad. Honda Motor Co Ltd notified the transport ministry it will recall 847,000 units of six models -- the Civic, Ferio, Hybrid, Fit, Stepwagon and Stream -- which were built between August 2000 and December 2001, a company spokesman said. Honda will fix a fault in the switch controlling the front headlights at a total cost of 5.77 billion yen (S$90 million), she said. The global total includes 190,424 units sold in Japan, which will cost 1.23 billion yen to recall and fix, she added. Separately Mazda Motor Corp said it will recall 6,559 RX-8 cars sold in Japan because of two defects. The company had identified a problem with the car's manual transmission system that can make a heat shield plate crack or come loose, and a defective shock absorber in the front wheels that can make components come loose while driving, a Mazda spokesman said. The recall will also affect roughly another 7,500 of the exported cars, bringing the worldwide total to about 14,000 units, he said. The recall covers vehicles made between February and August last year and this March. The spokesman could not say how much the recall would cost. Meanwhile Honda America will recall 240 Civic GX cars made in the United States between March 2001 and October 2002 to fix a problem with the power steering that might stop the steering wheel turning, according to documents submitted to the ministry.
