Around June 2009, my friend sold away the same model for S$69K when it is only 2.5yrs old.

mileage less than 28,000km.

Per litre around 8 to 9km.

Parts can buy from stockist (Unico) or the volvo forum guy called danny which is much more cheaper.

Hi,

Noted with thanks!

At this mileage, request for the dealer to send the car to Wearnes for timing belt servicing. At the same time, run a check with Wearnes on the service record and its history. On your own expense, you may pay Wearnes to do a throughout check on the car for any defects. Other than that, I believe it is a great car. A few simple mods can bring its hp to 300+, if you are into that...

Thanks for the advise! I viewed the car yesterday and I realised there were only a few spot weld marks on the car front. Is it meant to be that way? My guess is it has been in a major front accident. Anyway there is another one avail on sgcarmart and I'm arranging to view this week.

remember to bargain hard, most will need some $$$ for repairs and wear & tear........

i had a used 08 v50 T5 which i had since sold away. zero problem except for the hissing aircon. maintainance cost for me is high coz i send it regularly to wearnes for servicing.

Get the dealer to send in the car to Wearnes for a check, they will know. If it had been involved in an accident, dealer wld bear the cost, if not u wld pay for the cost. Say that and observe the dealer's reaction. Have you considered this? S60R Very rare and powerful model

From what I understand, most dealers will not disclose accident history. S60R is rare but not my cup of tea and the dep is over my budget. :D

driving '05 V50 2.4i here. used to drive '04 S40 2.4i (same platform car).

common issues for both 2.4i/T5:

- aircon compressor clutch failure after 5 years. some outside shops will fix the clutch but eventually will fail again. replacing entire compressor is pricey (~$800-$1,000)

- front suspension arm bushings tend to crack and leak after 5 years, costs few hundred to change

- rear wheel bearings fail around 80-100k km creating low roaring sound when travelling in speed above 60kph

- engine mounting also fails near 5 year mark. this is probably regular wear and tear.

- leather quality is crap. the water buffalo skin (i believe) cracks easily. i got the entire leather redone and the car smells and feels like a new premium car now. btw the door panels and the non seating surfaces are PVC.

for T5 i am aware there's also a known issue with the positive crankcase ventilation causing a loud whirring noise. easily fixed at workshops that know how to diagnose the problem.

overall a great car to drive and very spacious and practical. my friend drives a C70 T5. the T5 engine is really awesome, but I opt for 2.4i NA as turbo engines may be more expensive to maintain in the long run. the 5spd auto transmission is pretty reliable (made by aisin industries, japanese.. or some maybe made by GM, i'm not sure).

the only two things i don't like - engine is not as free revving as the merc or BMW inline 4 or inline 6, probably due to the counterweights and flywheel in the inline 5 to reduce vibrations. engine also vibrates quite a lot as the revs build, so it's not so fun to rev the car above 5,000 rpm. the other thing is the gear shift in manual mode is a little slow.

If you opted for T5, you won't be complaining about the engine. And will beat most of the BMW and Merc on the roads.

the T5 is also an inline 5 engine just slightly bigger displacement per cylinder and a turbo. it still has the same 3rd order vibrations and the way it revs is similar. sure, it puts out lots of torque but theres a slight turbo lag also.

apple to apple, it may not outrun a 328i touring (US spec, 3.0L NA) that has a 6 speed auto plus the volvo does not handle like a bmw.

the new 528i 2.0L turbo engine will pretty easily outrun a V50 T5. weight, pretty similar. engine.. world of difference. a free revving engine will take off like a rocket.

with all that said, 2.4i or T5, both are very decent engines to drive around in.

oh.. also... a volvo creaks and creaks. the plastic parts on the b pillar, the seats... actually the entire chassis creaks like nobody's business. car's heavy.
