hi guys,

need to go for servicing soon, and want to change engine oil. i'm currently on Shell 5-40, and thinking to change to either Mobil 1 gold 0-40 or idemtisu 5-40, which one is better for my 5 yr old 110K km car?

of the 3, i would go for m1 gold for its proven track record--as for price, its the least attractive!

i would recommend X-rev 0W40.....using them for my 5yr old latio with mileage similar to urs at 110K km

smooth & quiet engine.....

PS: me no relationship with them at all......

I would always go Idemitsu.

Mobil 1 is all about advertising hype.

The ones used in racing != the ones you buy off the shelf.

Comparing Mobil 1 0w40 vs Idemtisu 5w40, Mobil 1 looks better on paper. It is better on TBN, flash point, and possibily pour point. The viscosity at both 40deg.C and 100 deg.C is also lighter than Idemtisu, so should help in better fuel economy.

I would recommend Agip or Liqui Moly.whatever brand of engine oil uses, please add one or two (100ml) of ZX1 friction elimination lubricant can smooth your engine.

Tried both before.

My car is closing to 4 years old.

I would recommend Mobile 1 gold.

The last time I used Helix ultra, it only last me up to 3000km than my engine felt darn sluggish.. From than on no more shell EO for me.

Hypersonic

Couldn't agree more. The engine became very rough after 5000km.

TS, go for Mobil 1 gold. $80 for the 4L bottle, cheaper than Idemtisu for the same grade?

The last I heard Idemtisu has a higher pricing than Mobile 1 gold. I could be wrong.

despite all the hype abt X-REV and the "running without engine oil", in my honda edix engine, X-REV gives 11.8km/l while mobil gold gave 12.5km/l. both are w40 weighting.

on my prev NA car, mobil 1 gold worked perfect... never a need for the more ex high perf oils. Using motul 300v now and like it a lot.

i did try once on idemitsu oil on my previous ride.

i can say it makes the engine smooth and quiet.

FC wise, no different. but no complain. :)

never try on mobil 1 gold before.

perhaps my next next round, heading to try Amsoil for the next servicing.
