The management committee (MC) of a Yio Chu Kang condominium has been putting up the names of residents who are behind in their maintenance fees on notice boards and in lifts of blocks where they live.

 

The New Paper counted 36 names of Castle Green Condominium residents, who owed between $1,000 and nearly $10,000. Collectively they owe nearly $70,000.

 

Next to each list was a notice warning that legal action may be taken against those who fail to pay their fees.

The move has upset some residents at Castle Green – including those not on the list. They feel the MC is being overzealous.

 

The Castle Green MC, made up of elected residents, declined to comment. But a managing agent for another condo said that "shame lists" are effective in making errant residents pay up.

HDB can still close one eye, some families really struggling to make ends meet. But for condo its a diff story. If you can opt to live in luxury but no money pay maintenance fee, that's really cmi. Its like buying a luxury/performance car but always make multiple trips to JB to pump cheap petrol. [thumbsdown]

Maintenance Fee is agar agar ard $300. Owe $10K means default close to 33 months???

 

Some ppl treat it as an interest free loan by not paying promptly.

But in reality, MCST do not have overdraft facility. Cashflow problems can easily overwhelm any MCST.

 

Maybe if owe below say 6 months, can give chance. Those with short term financial problem can be spared unpleasantness. But to owe more than 6 months shd not be tolerated, and justify efforts made to recover the $.

Iam surprised that the condo management can allow someone to owe as much as close to 10k for the maintenance fees. I thought if 3 months no pay up, action would be taken already.

depends on how condo are being run...

 

some have very low interest rate for people that didn't pay up. so for these residents, they take it as low cost loan and don't pay up.

 

and being Managing Agent, not many are keen to do such shame and tell thingy. guess it's really beyond their control , thus the extreme measures.

 

maybe their next step is to put photo.

 

HDB shd start such measures as well, esp for those households that drive big car, go for expensive holiday but die die don't want to pay maintenance fee...

actually...there is interest being charged. At my condo, it's 12% interest for late payment!

 

If Castle Green MC doesn't impose interest, then that's stupid of them

 

Also, MC should try to make it easy for people to pay. For example through internet banking or Giro. I heard that for some condo, you need to mail a cheque to the MC office. That's so darn troublesome!

 

Most of these people in condo is not they can't afford to pay. It's only probably lazy to pay especially when no late interest is charged or if they are being overseas and MC doesn't have a GIRO for them to pay.

that the reason avoid mass market condo where most residents are HDB ungraders, anyway there will be some that will do that . wearing a hat too big for the head

KNS...... HDB 5 rooms only pay $65/- monthly.............

 

Since they choose to pay 10 times more, they ask for it to be listed in the notice board...... :ph34r::ph34r:

pui got money buy condo no money pay mantainece.... Sometime these type of people need a good lesson. I think the condo MC is doing what is right.
