I don't see how much can you save from going to malaysia to replace radiator hoses.

But fo beware to OEM hoses unless they are made to withstand high temp in the engine. Else its going to distingrate very fast. Of course you can also go for high quality Samco hoses.

IMO if you are not very confident, you can buy the parts here in SG and go over to change.

Just changed my Dang Ki hose and manifold in Kulai workshop. They din have the parts though but the owner managed to order from KL and change it.

Spend about RM700 on it including workmanship of RM140.

Btw what car you driving? ^_^

Not really cheap labour leh....

I ordered my Samco (3 pc set) from ebay shop.... already save a bunch.

Then installation in local w/s is only $40.

Supercharged

Thanks for all the info. Mine's a 2003 Matrix. Going up north this weekend to visit in-laws. Don't drive my car while there so am thinking of just leaving the car at the workshop to change hose & coolant and oil & filter change.

I agreed. Changing radiator hose is a very simple procedure. Just make sure you change it only when the engine is cold, else you are going to get hurt by the hot water. Since coolant is going to spill out, you can take this opportunity to replace your coolant as well.

Hi Brother,

Since replacement of coolant n hose has been planned.

Do u include water pump replacement as well...?

Even it does not show signs of failure!

Btw, does we need to flush the coolant path b4 putting in the new coolant?

Me was advised by my ws to have above parts to replace at 1 time.

Save labour cost, work ...!

Please advise further..!

As in topic title. Thanks in advance.

Dont try to save money by buying your parts in MY.

As far as I have found, most of the parts avaliable there r of a very low quality.

Even those branded & supposed made in Japan r of low quality.

I suspect they have a lot of imitation & fake parts there.

WAH!!!!! $200 just to change rad hose???? [dizzy]

They use solid glod clips & screws issit?

I used to change myself for the top hose. The ones below r harder to change.

But now I just ask my mech to do it. Labour is not that much if u go to an honest mech.

The hose under the engine is much harder to change. [sweatdrop]

Lol.... I guess there is little profit from replacing coolant and hoses so they decide to throw in water pump as well. Then they cna probably charge you 80-100 for labour...... [laugh]

Water pump is very reliable device and you will get plenty of warning before it fails. 1 thing that should fail on the water pump is the seal. If the pump is leaking then you know its time to replace. Then if there is whinning from the pump, it indicates the bearings are going soon, thus its time to replace as well.

Whats your mileage now? Is it coming to 100K, if so, you can replace if you want. Else, no point spending the money.

Water pump is usually replaced when u change your timing belt as they have about the same lifespan & same parts need to b removed to change both.

Rad hose is very simple & straight-forward. No other parts need to b removed to change the hoses.

Just top=up the rad coolant with some water & coolant mix is fine. Unless your coolant is very old & is due to repalce.

Then u can just drain the coolant out & re-fill. No need for water pump to b replaced.

Thats why I say its harder than the top hose. I prefer to let my mech do it for a few bucks. I can stand beside car to look see & shout instructions from there. Keep myself clean. [laugh]
