footage from vd 7000. Not good, not good at all.

Need help from bros here. Why is the front camera footage so 'rounded' and distorted? The rear camera is also wide angle but doesn't have this problem.

adrian bro,

I think I embedded wrongly, cos I can't view the video myself. Will try a link instead. Me seriously very noob. I just crawled out from a cave somewhere! Do you mean print screen?

here's the screenshot:

vd70002channels.jpg

actually the van in front is the same distance from my car as the car behind. But I can't see the car plate at all. The specs for both front and back cameras are the same but the quality of the images are very different.

Also, the image from the rear camera is of a poorer quality than the one in front.

It looks ok to me. It is more rounder cos of the wider angle lens to cover ur entire bonnet area. Some ppl like it, some dont.

Basically I find abt 120 degrees wide angle lens is the best compromise. The higher degrees u go, it will be more rounder aka fish eye lens.

From the manual, english is abit CMI so you need to repharse yourself and understand. It should be able to start recording automatically

◆USB IN

When the recorder is switched ON (using external power), ignore the

menu of external device connection, just wait for 2 sec. to enter

recording mode automatically and start recording.

MENU Button→【 】MENU→【USB IN】→【YES】*/【NO】

* Default

refering to Model GSE580

i gave up reading the manual and email the people in Taiwan and they confirmed with me that it will auto start when engine start...

hi adrian, thanks!

yeah, actually that was what I thought too, that it's because of the wide angle. But the funny thing is that the rear camera also covers about 156 degrees but doesn't have this prob. And the other vd7000 youtube videos don't have this prob leh.

The vehicles in the screenshot were actually half a car length or less away from me, but I still can't make out the car plate in front of me.

Now there are actually 2 prob: I really can't see the car plate in front of me clearly, regardless of the distance and the rear video is also very grainy.

The screenshot does not show the true resolution of the video. Are you able to view the forward video in 640x320 resolution??? And did u select the highest quality to be recorded???

Otherwise just get another HD car camera.

The highest I can view in youtube is 360p. Have selected the highest possible for 2 channels, 640 x 320 at 10fps.

Actually I'm more put off by the fact that I can't see any numbers at all. I'm right up to ppl's butt but I still can't see the car plate. Do all car cameras distort the distance between the cars? Cos I'm worried if touch wood, anything happens, it may be at my disadvantage if the distance is magnified.

Wonder if i can ask for a refund. Have attached it to my car battery, so quite leh cheh to take it out. Think in the meantime, use my sony hx9v digital cam as a sub first.

Next time get car camera must chio along someone like you so as not to waste money!

Thank you all for contributing into this thread. Very enlightening and lots of good sharing.

There is an earlier post on a smaller "Milocan" labelled as new design. Saw this on aliexpress.com. So, here's my contribution:

This is the highest??? 10fps??? Ur video sure to be jerky.

Please use ur own video editor to view the video not youtube.

I think u can use this as surveillance cam only n please get another one HD car camera.

thanks bro!

In the manual and specs it says 20fps, but when you choose from the controls, it's only 10fps. Actually when I view it on my own video player and youtube, it's not that jerky. The major beef I have is its inability to record car plates! Kah pui!

Yeah, use it as a surveilance camera and will get another HD one for the road. Will do my homework and read up on the latest recommendations in this thread.

Bec of you as our leading expert on car cams mah...

Quite amusing to see you rebuffing some of them on their claims.

i have actually read through this whole thread [bounce1]

i conclude the Dod-tec cameras are best for image quality & HD recording, but probably the Koreans ones (e.g. blackvue) are good on features e.g. power management, design etc.

currently, there isnt an "ideal" product yet

i will be interested to try the GSE-550 though, whenever that is released...

Could someone please let me know which shop sells and install Blackvue DVR? I was doing a Yahoo search for the shop most of this morning and still came out nothing. Thanks
