Watwheels Supersonic June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 (edited) Camry is no doubt the heavier car here thus the force of impact is more dan that of the Vios'. Multiply by Vios' own force of impact, of course the Vios' look badly crushed. Looking at the equation Force of impact(ignoring the impact angle) = Mass x Acceleration(assuming this value is consistent for both cars). At any point which ever car's mass has a greater value, the greater the impact force as a result. Thus in turn if the Camry is crashed against a much heavier car, it will more or less look like the Vios in this video. So safety has its limit and crash tests are often done in a controlled environment. When on the roads anything can happen, sad to say there's no 100% safety. Becos of the different ride height, their bumpers and crumpled zones do not ideally meet where they should. The high chance of the sedan going under is there. They did a demo, I think can be found on youtube also. true to a certain extent. but the design of the smaller car plays a big part too. juz take a look at the clip below of audi Q7 vs fiat 500. Eugn86 3rd Gear June 7, 2010 Share June 7, 2010 (edited) The euroncap is based on cars being tested against something of similar size. So as the car gets bigger, the barrier gets bigger. So that's how u get the ratings. Regardless of all this ratings, real-life crashes are seldom the same as those in crash-test facilities because in those facilities, everything is within control. I asked the locals of Oman in middle east, where the speed limit is 120kph, why are the majority of the cars there Toyotas. He told me because it is cheap and spare parts are available everywhere (every few km there will be a shop); European makes are not popular because of the lack of spare parts and poorer reliability in their climate. However, here is the big but, Oman's accident rate is very very high, and he told me those in Jap makes normally do suffer serious injuries in an accident, whereas those in European makes often do not. He works in the A&E Operating Theater and have seen lots of people sent in for emergency treatments as a result of high-speed crashes. Oh and btw, because cars are so cheap there, everyone has a passion for cars... and football. So they do know their cars very very well.
