Ken4555 1st Gear June 10, 2010 Author Share June 10, 2010 Aiyah you get this and workshop all no biz next time why no biz still need to do other things mah... i heard some ppl go to workshops with this and the workshop mech also happy faster and no risk of thread per char... also can let go the oil when its very hot like immediately after you turn off the engine... better easier for all the dirt to come out throughly.. but you cant immediately open the engine oil nut bolt if your engie is very hot... Opel17 6th Gear June 12, 2010 Share June 12, 2010 The valve shown in the photo is almost the same as those miniature ball valve, which can be found in hardware stores or Mustafa. I am using one of the miniature ball valve in the toilet, for washing the floor. You need to find out from your mechanic the size and type of thread of the drain plug [eg. 1/2" BSP], and you purchase the valve with the same size/thread. The lever in the valve [photo] can be opened [sabotaged] by anyone, who is aware that you have installed this, and your engine oil would be drain off by mischievous intent. Those miniature ball valve lever can be removed, and simply re-attached for draining the engine oil. I had observed my mechanic will immediately drain the engine oil once I arrived for servicing. No problem with the hot oil. IMHO, the valve does not offer you any benefit. The purpose of this valve is for easy draining of oil. Its only meant for those who do oil change themselves. Cause oil change is quite messy. When you unscrew the bolt, oil will gush out from the hole and confirm kana your hands and maybe the floor as well. Then have to clean up. If using such a valve, can control the oil flow. those with nipple can attach a hose to it and hence make things alot easier. If you engage WS service, don't need for such a valve. IMHO, the valve does not offer you any benefit. i believe even a baby cant crawl under my car... haha... so no worries of sabotage.. as for your miniature ball valve... how effective is it against leaking? do you often check below your car for leaks? did you install yourself or did your mech into it? by the way wats your drive.. i understand different makes have different shaped oil pans.. Why worry about the oil .. even if you can cut a steel braided hose lets say... the owner wont drive off if he cant feel is brakes (auto car)... = failed to sabo engine oil out car will still start... if owner doesnt see or smell the oil then he drives off.. over heat and damaged engine... (unless using x-rev hahaha) you wanna sabotage big headache problems, learn how to open the bonnet... put sugar crystals into the engine oil.... rest is history... overhaul time.. Only problem is during installation, the tap rest on the bottom. Due to the screwing in, you don't know which position it will end up. You should have washers standby to try and position it right side up, but I didn't. To further prevent "accidental" moving of the tap, I put another small cable tie across the slot. Material of brass ? gasket ? double leak proof ... still i would not try it.. both material must be the same so as not to cause any brittleness to each others if match correctly. Oil sump, hopeful all residues will be drained out and not causing choke at base/ oil pan or even to the tubing if mounted with this plug. Over tightening ? what's spec on torque ? else you will make it worst to tighten it too tight and resulted not able to take out.. scarely... but just my 5 cts imagination. Cable tie can never be able to do the job, esp those bottom parts and will you everytimes roll under and check it ??? drive with a suspicious and worrisome heart ... why start the fire ? I know the spec. I have the workshop manual. I have the torque wrench. If I want to, I can do it. On the other hand, try asking a mechanic to use a torque wrench on the oil pan nut and see what reaction you get. I won't even mentioned the use of cable tie, if you don't know where I'm using it. Good to have the right tool, knowledge and manual.. but to newbies difficult to know all stuff. Just IMHO, don't mind bro. Ya gd to hl mech who nvr torque the oil nut nvr and nvr b4 maybe they are trained. If any untoward happen, shall ask them for free svc again... bec $ paid... just like overhaul but after ride with crash gear box..ha....ha... else 1/2 1/2 also can, just like new. However those gd mech i seen b4 had torqued the wheel nut after changing suspension. kudos to them. Seriously, if the mechanic needs to use a torque wench on an oil pan bolt, I wouldn't let him near my car...... Any mechanic with decent experience and skill will know how much torque is needed to keep the bolt tight but not too tight. Even I myself know that..... Apologies for the undue caution about sabotage. No, I did not install the ball valve for my ride [Fiat Panorama]. I am using a miniature ball valve in my toilet, for washing floor. In my Panorama, there is a big piece of plastic tray underneath the engine compartment, which must be removed everytime before draining oil.
