S-gt Neutral Newbie June 12, 2010 Share June 12, 2010 Seriously, if the mechanic needs to use a torque wench on an oil pan bolt, I wouldn't let him near my car...... Any mechanic with decent experience and skill will know how much torque is needed to keep the bolt tight but not too tight. Even I myself know that..... Torque wenches are only necessary for more dedicated jobs like engine rebuilding where torque specs are important. Kindly explain dedicated jobs ??? you won't even know unless u eyeball e mech, hardly we can see it . Only manual stated. "In my Panorama, there is a big piece of plastic tray underneath the engine compartment, which must be removed everytime before draining oil." One thing to note is go with who you comfortable with, be happy and trust their svc and leaving yr car in good shape. I do torqued my mine wheel nuts. As I said, engine rebuilding is a dedicate job. My mechanic explains to me that torque wench is required when you rebuild engine or mount engine head, esp for the conrod bolts. This is because if you under torque, the forces created during combustion will cause the bolt to stretch. Same thing for head, not enough torque meand not enough bolt tension, thus head lift may occur. You also do not want to over tighten the bolts else you will end up stretching the bolts too much. As for the rest of the jobs, I don't really think its that important except for spark plug installation. If you over tighten......its going to be very difficult to remove. I am using a miniature ball valve in my toilet, for washing floor. In my Panorama, there is a big piece of plastic tray underneath the engine compartment, which must be removed everytime before draining oil. Cheers !! haha... it was me the sotong... cheers! Kb27 Supersonic August 6, 2010 Share August 6, 2010 I bought the one with the nipple. During oil change, I will attach a hose to it and direct the other end to a container. Then turn on the tap and the oil flows cleanly into the container, no mess. When you're finished, just turn off the tap. The trick is to have the oil warm after a short drive so the oil flow easier and faster and open the oil filler cap. Only thing is watch out the oil filter. Oil will drip all over the place once it is loosened from its position, so take care to have a container to catch all the oil coming out. Wear a glove as well, so the hot oil won't burn your hand when trying to remove the oil filter. Do the oil filter after draining the oil pan first to reduce the amount of oil in the filter. Been using it for the past 6years over 6 different cars(family or friends). None had any issues. Just that you need washers to make sure the lever is positioned right so that you just need to reach your hand under the car to turn the lever. for toyotas, you do not need to jack the car up to do oil change (oil filter towards the front). but for some hondas due to the oil filter at the back of the engine facing the firewall, you have to jack up. so with this valve its an easy oil change esp for toyota cars. Mercuri Neutral Newbie August 12, 2010 Share August 12, 2010 i too have used this over past 5 yrs. even had an accident that resulted in my undercarriage being scratched after both right side wheels of car went down a drain! when it was raised up in the wkshop, i checked on the valve... was scratched but not too badly and did not leak... so pretty secure product! and yes, servicing my car was a breeze... change EO, spark plug and filter within 1 hr done! Ken4555 1st Gear September 6, 2010 Author Share September 6, 2010 yo bro, so how is the valve doing? the valve is perfect... no problems no leaking... thank god... valve is very easy to open and close... best thing about it is that i can drain immediately once engine is off... the speed of the oil flowing out is not exactly fast though cause the hole not very big.
