Nullifi3d 4th Gear June 11, 2010 Share June 11, 2010 (edited) Sometimes I think our army RSMs have the delusions that they are Chiefs from the USMC. Can't blame them. They think they are doing something out of the SAF posters. Some of us have real jobs and contribute economically and socially. ZZ Oh btw, 740gds peeps hope to see u this coming july. Seen the training programme and its business as usual for guardsmen. So much action, little time for rest. Nutsack Clutched April 22, 2012 Share April 22, 2012 Just finished my ICT recently and as usual, it's an enjoyable experience meeting up old friends. Anyone else enjoy and looking forward to ICT and feel somewhat sad when ICT ended? My ICT never enjoyable. Other ppl just go training, no training then just sleep in bunk. For me, I go training. Training finish, go back office do paperwork run here and there till 11plus at night. Stay in. WTF.

Scion Turbocharged April 22, 2012 Share April 22, 2012 That's the idea. What these RSMs need to know is that if you focus so much on the NSman being the soldier as soon as he puts on the uniform, I guarantee you he will siam the next ICT. Of course if you make it so much like holiday camp, then no need to do training and be soldiers. Everything need some kind of balance. You focus so much on the mission, pretty soon you will be the last man standing, if you are lucky. If you care about welfare so much, might as well pack up and go home. Even in the SAF, this is important. It is the men who do complete the mission. The officers and NCOs? They are there to give us the tools and even morale to finish the mission. That is what leadership is for. sorry are you an ex-regular? cos you sound so regimental ICTs are major disruptions in one's career and family the govt should count its blessings that no one ever try to challenge this silly "duty" of citizens not that we did not sacrifice 2.5 years of our life for NS luckily the officers of my ICTs are very understandable... they have shown appreciation to us for turning up for ICTs

Scoots 3rd Gear April 22, 2012 Share April 22, 2012 I don't actually, off-cycle. Joined 1st reservist using in their second half, recycled after that one MR-ed now into 5th yr of new unit... Have clocked more than enough low keys ... not enough high keys .. my peers all MR-ed problem is ... my low keys are more siong than high keys as the program is 'compressed' then high keys ... and the MT line is the one that needs to prep the earliest, and return venhicles/stores the latest. Need to participate in refresher training while at teh asme time, need to be working (details for stores, AWOLee visits, recce...) *sigh* ... the neglected bunch
Genie47 1st Gear April 22, 2012 Share April 22, 2012 Not regular but understand what the damn armed forces is for. As you see from the recent FB LOL saga, a lot of people think it is not hard work. They think it is a holiday camp. Fact is sacrifices are made. Commanders made the most. I know for the fact before being an NSman involved in reservist operations that NSmen commanders put in a lot of effort. There are training exercises I have witnessed involving other nations. US commanders night time go khoon why SG commanders go all the way into the night planning nearly everyhting. The reason why we don't challenge the gahment over this citizen soldier thing is deep down inside, we know it is necessity. As I keep telling my foreign colleagues, it is a bad, bad world out there. Every country has a police force, firefighters and armed forces not because other nations have them. Just too much plain bad assery that needs to be fought off or at least scared away. Your commanders are understanding is good. I had them understanding too but in the end of it all, they are assessed on how well they executed the mission. They also need us to do it. As explained, they can't push us too much till we "quit" but they also can't be slack so that objectives are not met. That's the leadership that is required for ICTs. Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear April 22, 2012 Share April 22, 2012 Just finished my ICT recently and as usual, it's an enjoyable experience meeting up old friends. Anyone else enjoy and looking forward to ICT and feel somewhat sad when ICT ended? I am not amused by the sheer waste of time/efforts/money. Keep reminding me of these each ICT. 1st ICT reminded us how incompetent officers can be (he had forgotten basic field craft and re-intriduced as lastest for us to learn). 1st ICT with SCDF: debriefed them not to call me for further ICT (totally irrelevant and made me just a useless head count). Kiario 5th Gear April 22, 2012 Share April 22, 2012 i really miss my ICT, as I now MR. there is siong ICT and lobo ICT, the ICT nearest to ATEC was more chialat, and ATEC for my unit was a nightmare. but no matter how siong, you will get over it because of the bros serving with you. as for NS men being charge into DB, yes, there is in my unit, for ordering KFC delivery during the ATEC mission. they weren't caught eating, they were caught because a stupid umpire following them went back and booasted to his peers that he had KFC, was overheard by a regular LTC who insisted on charging everyone involved. ↡ Advertisement
