Chewbacca 1st Gear June 25, 2010 Author Share June 25, 2010 the Volkswagen Phaeton is a level down from the S-class, 7-Series and Lexus LS (in terms of badge value)....the appropriate competitor is the Audi A8.... that said, the VW Phaeton is really an underrated car....it boasts of the luxuries of the above cars, yet being 'affordable' thanks to the people's car value of the badge.... but that's also the reason why it isn't selling well, because of the badge.... people in such class of cars will look at the badge value of the car as of utmost importance.... that's why this car didn't sell well here.... who would wanna buy a 3.2L V6 LWB Luxury car at just S$240k??? No value and no face.... it's not as if buyers in such class are short of money.... Yeah, I think you're right. At $250k, you might as well buy a...5 series, for example. Can even get the new GT (let us not talk about how it looks first, that's subjective). Also, I've checked out the specs for the 3.2L Phaeton. It doesn't seem to be as fast as other $250K sedan.....which is kind of strange, isn't it? I guess the one the one that Windchoco sat in is the one with the W12 configuration? Since in German, that's quite possible.... The only other car with a W configuration (though 16 cylinders) is the fabled Veyron.... ↡ Advertisement
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear June 25, 2010 Share June 25, 2010 the engines for the new Phaeton are about the same as the outgoing model.... 3.2V6 upgraded to 3.6V6 280bhp, 4.2V8 and 6.0W12.... the outgoing model has a nasty interior, made from really cheap materials and didn't seem assembled well together.... like when you wanna close the door, the door armrest could drop off from the door liddat.... if i'm not wrong, the 3.2V6 had a 240bhp engine, and does 0-100kph in 9.4s.... that's decent enough already for a car this size.... i'm worried that the Hyundai Equus will fall into the trap of the VW Phaeton.... but the smallest engine for that car is a 4.6V8 380bhp.... Cheepo 3rd Gear June 26, 2010 Share June 26, 2010 Just saw a Phaeton this morning along Bukit Timah.... it does not look like it likes multi-storey carparks or narrow lots.
Lareneg Neutral Newbie June 26, 2010 Share June 26, 2010 (edited) to sidetrack a bit, volkswagen (group) already owns a few top automobile companies like lamborghini, bently, bugatti and audi.. not to mention some 50% share in porshe.. the phaeton is just one of their engineering pieces made for the niche.. Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear June 26, 2010 Share June 26, 2010 most definitely.... anyways, anyone noticed the price tag for the upcoming Porsche Panamera 3.6V6 300bhp to be around the same price as the S350L??? The new Audi A8L will be yet another exclusive model, since not many will take to the likes of the new car styling.... but those who get it, will especially find the interior a pleasant place to be in.... ↡ Advertisement
