Hi guys,

Is a 7" rims a little too wide for a 195 tire?

what is the best fit for a 7"?

can someone teach me how to pair rim and tire width? is there some kind of best practice?

Thanks a lot...

I think TS meant the rim width rather than rim diameter lah. ^_^

For 195 section tires, rim width should be between 5.5" to 7". So 7" is max already. When you fit your 195 section tire to 7" width rim, you will get the "stretched" rubber look that is quite hip in the US tuning scene at the moment. :D Basically, the tire sidewall will slant inwards towards the centre instead of being straight if mounted on a 5.5" to 6" width rim, which is probably what your stock rim width would be.

You should be more concerned with the offset of the rims so as not to affect the stock suspension geometry of your car and that the tires don't scrub against the wheel well or suspension strut during turning. Otherwise you may need spacers and camber adjustments which i'm personally not in favour of.

thanks for the link... good stuff...

i may have a problem then during the transition phase...

my end state is to be on 195/55/15 with this 7" wide rims...

now i'm on 175/65/15 and since the min for a 7" rim is 195, my current 175 tyres won't fit onto it... and the rim shop and tyre shop are at 2 different location...

the reason why i want to change out my rims before the tyre is because i want to do a fresh balancing and alignment with the new tyres and new rims...

unless a change of rims will not require "re-alignment" then i can probably go change my tyres to 195 first then change to the 7" rims...

so pretty confirm 175 cannot go onto 7" rims? even for maybe a few days only before i change out?

Nope. 175/65 section tires should be between 5 to 6.5" width. Any wider than that is a risk. I'm not even sure the tires can be mounted firmly man.

If the tire shop tells u can be done, you better ask him for written warranty. [laugh]

Why all the trouble? You doing trade in for your rims and tires separately?

yes bro...

cause i want hankook v12...

and another shop is giving me quite a gd price for the rims...

aiya, simple la, since no need realignment when change wheels, i shall go change my tyres first then change rims...

thanks

Yep, that sounds like a much safer option [thumbsup], since 195/55 section tires should still be able to sit on your stock rims comfortably.

Best of luck, and enjoy the eventual killer "stretched rubber" look. :D
