Yup same here. I have been instructed by my tuner to use strictly V-power only as running very lean for both cars.

[laugh] Your car is a different league from ours. [laugh]

Funny my fren say his evo needs 98. [confused]

your friend is half right...evo need 98 at least. But there are exceptions. mine happen to be a lower spec with twin cat (choking the car to death with that) or so called detuned version..anyway, it has minor mods so cannot count already. by the way, It is avging 9-10litre/km, 98 fuel on 90% highway. boost to 1.6 bar once or twice every week. Few reasons for that. one is i am running leaner than normal at non boost region aka NA region to take adv of the 98 fuel, this is also where i spent most of my drive time there. Second is the oil in the rear diff axle is purposely 3/4 filled up..of course the most impt is good engine oil and service interval..

so who say evo is thirsty? [cool]

For me, yes, I strictly need 98 petrol. Anything below will cause knocking.

eh what you driving? if it is a mini cooper S it can still run on 95.

hell even the JCW also runs on 95.

unless your mini cooper has changed ecu, injectors, fuel pump, cams and a bigger turbo.

then we are talking about a 400-500bhp car, sure you will strictly only use ron 98 and it will be from esso. :)

Myvi Manual: recommended minimum Octane 90 (AD advertisement: 16.6km/l with Octane unknown)

Octane 92: below 12km/l

Octane 95: below 14km/l

Octane 98: below 16km/l

Octane100: next monitoring test

Hey dude, where to buy 100 RON fuel in Sinkapore or Bohlehland???

Tried 92, 95, 98, V-power.

Not much of a difference. Just quieter with higher octane fuel. Maybe because i don't rev hard or speed.

For my grocery getter Optra, it says min is 95 but I find 97 gives me better mileage & smoother too. [thumbsup]

I cud run on 95 without any problems but now MY dont allow me to pump 95 so I guess I have to stick with 97 unless it gets too ex. Then I wil have to find a way to get 95 in JB. [sly]

My car manual states to pump 90 and above. I pump 92 most of the time.

What i want to try now is pump 98. Then put in a giant bottle of octane booster(from autobacs) to bring it up to 104. See really how different the feeling of 92 is compared to 104. How much better is the mileage.

However, there is a warning on the bottle. "May damage catalytic converter". Is the warning meant only for NS engines?

My vehicle is turbo charged. The product stated that it is suitable for turbo charged engines. So will it still damage the converter?

I think the damage warning applies equally for all cars regardless of force induction or not. Because octane boosters usually contain heavy aromatic oils to boost the RON rating, i think the warning is more to do with the eventual stragulation of the honeycomb surface of the catalytic converter by these heavy aromatic oils.

Thanks so much for the info, Bro.

I won't try the "super" octane booster then.

[flowerface] welcome bro. hmmm driving a TC car and yet you are still a hypermiler? [grin]

wu yar bo? let me guess maybe you are driving a LBT car e.g. Jetta 1.4 TSI or maybe Colt Plus Turbo? [sunny]

If your car has a cat, it cud get damaged.

Maybe cos the oily residue wil not burn off & end up in the cat & render it useless.

Strange that your car is turbocharged but can use only RON90 petrol?

Very low pressure turbo?

My car came with the turbo. Not that i wanted it.

Nah.. not a big car. Small 659cc mitsubishi.

Turbo comes in handy for uphill climb and quick over-taking. Very useful.

Otherwise i just cruise.

Thanks for info.

Yes. The manual recommended that the lowest RON that can be used on the car is 90.

So i have been using 92 ever since. No problem at all.

Don't know if turbo is a high or low one. When i step to climb upslope, the boost meter shows +1.2 or a little more.

Sorry. Error in my last posting.

I alway assumed that the first notch in my boost meter was 1.0.

It's not. It is +0.5.

The boost goes up to +0.5 to +0.6 and a little more when i step a little harder on the pedal.

I have not tried flooring the pedal yet. I don't think i will.

The max reading on the boost meter is +1.2

Oh if your recommended is 90 then can pump anything.

But if yours is PI car, remember that Japan RON & SG RON is different.

They use different grading so your 90 might mean 95 in SG.

Many thanks, now I know why Champion Motors had been repeatedly unable to set the ignition timing properly for Suzuki 800. They used Japanese petrol specification workshop manual to do my car. Finally I DIY it right (so lucky)
