Hi guys, last week I got a serious throat infection and I managed to stop for 1week! Its still counting! Have yet to cold turkey, but having nose block once in a while. Not sure if that is one of the factor into going cold turkey.

That's good news! Basically if you manage to stop for a whole week you are certainly ready to go cold turkey. Throw away all cigarettes and keep away all ashtrays and lighters, and make best use of this chance.

One of my friends tried his first puff at 14, but accidentally swallowed the smoke and puked his guts out. But somehow he tried again and again and is still smoking now at 40+.

I half wish that had happened to me; I might have been put off for life. My first puff, on the other hand (I started even younger than him) was cautious and careful and I loved the sensation and the taste of the smoke swirling round my mouth - I didn't inhale then. Smoking is damn shiok, I admit - but knowing you will stay much healthier and save up much more money to indulge in other pleasure is more shiok!

Yes.

There are lots of benefits of not smoking.

Do join us and start quitting.

At least, we tried. But quoted from Bro tigerwood : " Even when you fail after trying to quit, continue to try again"

Surely one day, you will suceed.

Hehe... I've actually been smoke free for 7 years already and have been posting in this thread from very early [laugh]

Never slipped up too. Have always felt its the desire to quit and the determination and willpower which will enable one to succeed.

But my apology for the confusion that I made.

Thought I would start a new one here to aviod antagonizing those who do not wish to quit.

I promised bro Tigerwoods to check in when I have started my Quit campaign..so here goes. Today is Day 4...still can take it but the urge hit more often in the past 2 days. First 2 days were a breeze....maybe now body in shock?

Am thinking of begging for a stick from colleague....but so far so good..haven't gone down that road... [cool]

Good that you want to quit..but more importantly have you gone for a check up?

Not good to use one addictive substance to counter another [laugh]

Try to do other things to keep yourself busy, then either way you won't have the urge to smoke or drink.

All done, got a full check-up and blood test before quitting and 3 times after in the last few years. All clear!

You seem convinced that quitting is no use once someone has smoked before - any proof? It is true smoking damages the body, but most of the damage IS reversible - ask any doctor.

Oh by the way, your username and the point of view you are trying to bring across is so familiar...

To all here who are in the midst of quitting or do intend to quit, it is indeed wise to go for a full checkup just to ensure that you have a clean bill of health. But don't listen to this wolve who seems to think that quitting is of no use and that it is too late even after you quit - he has gone around posting discouraging remarks on topics involving quitting from long ago - read the old thread in the link I posted and look for ahgongwolve's posts and you'll know! Maybe I did through getting a flu, cough and fever last 2weeks ago, cause I dunno wad a cold turkey feels like. Things are looking great now, but I keep having dreams that I went back smoking, any bros dreamt of that too?
