Mini-itx Clutched October 3, 2010 Share October 3, 2010 Anyone saw the RevX advertisement at Autobacs. They drove an Impreza around w/o engine oil!! Wonder if its real. If so, we can really save alot of oil since engines no longer require oil. ↡ Advertisement

But for now, who dares to follow revX claims? think not only will sTis be crashing often, they will also have their engines blowing up everywhere. Ever drove without petrol twice (too complacent to top up fuel tank by less than a hundred metres each time at the same location) Better if no engine required? Kangadrool Supersonic October 4, 2010 Share October 4, 2010 you can do it with some additives too, but question is for how long? Oil draws heat away from engine. But, without oil, what happens to the heat?
Chilla18 Neutral Newbie October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 (edited) If this is true the Army will be the first to use this as they do not have to worry about having to change oil every now and than. As for major oil company they will go bankrupt very soon cause if it can use these in car engine it is a matter of time even machinery they will also do away with engine oil and all other oil (gear oil, hudraulic oil. etc...). which business man in the right of mind will sell this oil for 1 time and after that he will not be expecting to sell any more oil very soon he will eat "wind/ownself". Haha, don't be naive that oil companies will go bankrupt even if there are "Zero" demand for Engine Oil. The crude oil can be refined to give you more % of Fuel or Diesel and other consumable oil. Every barrel of oil that oil company extract will set a proportion of process for refined "Engined Oil" (X%), "Fuel" (X%), Diesel (X%) and "Other Consumble Oil" (X%)... If the fuel price increases, you will see more oil company fluctuate the % of refinement for each category. Hence, oil company go bankrupt? Only if Earth run dry of raw crude then perhaps... Cavver 4th Gear October 5, 2010 Share October 5, 2010 What a Big Hole (try said it in hokkien) , even electric motor need oil for lubricate, else without engine oil, engine internal parts will start shearing each other.
Ken4555 1st Gear October 6, 2010 Share October 6, 2010 the fact is... most if not all mordern syn oils in the market will stick to moving parts in the engine... a relatively new car, good condition... you drain off the eo also can start the engine one... drive normally and gently 20-30km no problem one... can do (of course not redline driving lah)... but there will be alot of wear and tear in the engine... but IT WILL STILL RUN.... so this advert is bs.... imo... The engine CAN run without oil, but the questions what is the mean time to failure of the engine which is irreversible and expensive.
