Toledo 1st Gear October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 i had this prob b4 in my old comp. kept rebooting for no apparent reason. suspected hardware but couldn't pin point the source. changed power supply unit, checked the rams, usb etc etc. even reformatted a few times ! as the frequency of the reboots increased (sometimes reboot initiated within 5 min or less after start up), the whole comp eventually died. couldn't even boot up. no beep sound during start up even (the beep sound usually occurs if there is hardware failure for ram, graphics card etc) what u can try to do as a last resort is to re-install and see how things go. hopefully no more auto reboots. else it may point to impending hardware failure. gd luck ! Tiger21 Clutched October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 I got 2 different case. Case 1. Keep hanging and rebooting while using, mostly when playing video or graphic intensive usage. Ended up found 1 capacitor on the Video Card burnt/burst. Case 2. New PC sometime can boot sometime cannot. Changed Power supply helped a while then happened again. Bring back to shop they send the motherboard back for repairs/replacement (Gigabyte). Good luck. I know its frustrating.
Shull Turbocharged October 26, 2010 Share October 26, 2010 (edited) but core temp seem ok... 35-40deg dun think its over heat... think need to format... haiz for my case, usually the CPU will max load indefinitely, which cause the temperature to shot up to >100deg and then BSOD and restart.. soon, i found out that Windows Live Messenger hanged and overloaded my CPU... Bystander50 5th Gear October 27, 2010 Share October 27, 2010 There is another hardware possibility not mentioned. Check the capacitors on the motherboard. It is a round cylinder shaped component. Take a look at the top and bottom and see if it is bloated or leaking. A good capacitor should have a flat surface on both ends. Google capacitor plague. This is a common problem in the late 90s to mid 2000. Recently Dell pcs are the latest to be affected by this capacitor problem. Another video streaming product called Slingbox is also affected by it, you can google for more info. I encountered this capacitor problem, just DIY replace it and the problem will be solved. Stevle 5th Gear October 28, 2010 Share October 28, 2010 if the pc keep re-booting w/o warning, likely problem is overheating. Make sure your CPU fan is firmly secured to the CPU holder. If one of the CPU fan holder below give way due to brittleness, the unbalanced force may caused the CPU to overheat. sound just about right. happened to mine b4 and i had no clue for quite a while why it keep on rebooting... until i was so pissed off one day that i decided to do a thorough vacuming. then realized the cpu fan was loose and not properly sitting on the chip. fixed that and had no problem since then.. PointyEwe Clutched October 28, 2010 Share October 28, 2010 Did you even get to boot up to Win XP before it auto restart? Easiest way is to boot up from the installation CD and reformat the system drive. Try to learn how to troubleshoot the pc yourself. This will save your the pain of lugging it around sls asking for help as this kind of problem will always come back. ↡ Advertisement
