Sturtles 6th Gear November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 Now here's a farmer, doing scholar stuff, for free Being paid millions and not coming up with this is simply not justifiable This video shows the VW-sponsored testing of a speed camera lottery concept in Stockholm. The idea for a speed camera lottery came from American Kevin Richardson, who submitted it as part of Volkswagen's Fun Theory contest and won an award for it. The premise for a speed camera contest is simple: As the camera catches speeders to be fined it also captures those obeying the speed limit. Some of the money raised by the fines is set aside to be won in a lottery by one of the lucky law-abiding drivers. As Richardson says in the video: "I really believe that fun can change human behavior for the better." Over a 3 day period, over 24,000 cars passed the experimental speed lottery camera. Average speed before the test was 32 km/h but dropped to 25 km/h while the camera was there. DarkSide Neutral Newbie November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 Great idea.... Might just work in gambling-crazy SG... Some other great ideas... We could have also use the current ERP system to maintain road discipline... Easy... Slow lane for slow vehicles like trucks, buses, vans and friends... Once they veered to the wrong lane under an ERP gantry, they got charge $20...Not enuff in cashcard?? That will be another $10 fine... Cool and easy to implement... Fast lane / overtaking lanes? That will be $50...for heavy vehicles passing on these lanes... Someone submitted the idea to LTA but receive no response at all... Quite weird actually, considering this will potentially ease the flow of traffic... Maybe THEY want it to jam up to warrant an increase on ERP fees... Well, who knows... Another one... Breakdowns on expressway? $50 for towing out of expressway and $100 if your vehicle was found to be poorly maintained after a mandatory inspection when you breakdown and cause a jam... Unfortunately, these heavy vehicle drivers will only co-operate with the rest of motoring SG if they get hit in the pockets or their bosses get hit with fines... Anyone with LTA connections care to forward the ideas rather that forever increasing ERP rates... We shud make those who caused jams pay a lot more than those regular road users... Cheers! Thedream 3rd Gear November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 Their objective is to bring traffic speeds below the speed limit. This is already met with just the speed camera.

Leezld 1st Gear November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 (edited) Perhaps they can consider increasing the speed limit on the highway...I always found 90km/hr rather slow... perhaps that might ease the flow of traffic? Cheers! you didn't consider road hoggers ? as for your idea, it won't work probably.. just imagine all heavy vehicles kept lane discipline on the most left during peak hour. how would other cars exit? it would be like causeway and only cause greater jams.. can't expect to them to stop and let cars pass, stop and let cars pass right? they also need to go home or work like you and me. SimonTan 2nd Gear November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 Promoting gambling is wrong! Just drive safe. No need all these gimmicks! Speeding is a worldwide phenomenon. Every country face the same drivers problems!
Sturtles 6th Gear November 30, 2010 Author Share November 30, 2010 Their objective is to bring traffic speeds below the speed limit. This is already met with just the speed camera. Not true. Stockholm's implementation uses jackpot style accumulation for speedsters, and rewards people who keep the fast lane free. A win win situation

Sunnycrowe Clutched November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 this is a No NO!!!! Many drivers will slow down in order to keep within or even below speed limit (to qualify for "lucky draw")... LTA will do their review on average speed limit on expressway n found the speed limit below optimal range.. this means increasing ERP for this road..... To review ERP charges based on average speed limit on the road!!!!!!!

DarkSide Neutral Newbie November 30, 2010 Share November 30, 2010 Yeah!...You're rite...Lotsa idiots will not know how to cut in... Some dun even know how to merge into traffic... Maybe we shud just charge them more...or Ban them at peak periods, the super huge ones... Trailers, sand lorries.... We banned chewing gum anyway... Say, 6 to 7... Esp.the brokendown ones.... For breaking down on E way... No inspection, you're not getting back on the roads... Msian vehicles or foreign registered, we banned them from ever entering SG.. I, mean, laws of physics... If it's heavy but moving, it's fine.... But sometimes, even fast lane is like dead stop... Never fail to baffle me.... Hoggers? Well, there's more to come... The Boomers will let themselves drive till 100... After all, they are pushing to work till 70... Hahahahaha!! But then again, we are being run by a bunch of pirates... Even innocent people taking public transport got robbed of 300K... Hahahahaha! After Greece, there's Rome...After Rome, there's the Brits... Here comes SG...next up... Cheers!
