Maybe thats at why Hong Kong people gets riled up. The city was bustling with people and sound and noise everywhere until back to hotel room..... for tourist

But residents in such high density spaces just need little trigger to release pent up stressors.

Luckily new HDB design were slightly better than those 20 years ago.

1) Aircon condensers at ledge outside service yard

2) laundry area that's sheltered from dripping.

Reduces noise from condenser vibrations and inconsiderate neighbours that place dripping mops.

However nothing much can be done with Karaoke singing neighbours. 😅

I stay near a public hospital. Every now and then will hear ambulance blasting their music at other vehicles to give way even in the middle of the night. So definately have to close all windows to sleep soundly at night.

Using what I learned in psychology, we had gotten used to the noise. Its called Habituation and sensory adaptation.[:p]

Many times it is about getting used and adapt to the noise around you la. You see many flats here are near to roads, esp some are so close to expressway and i am always wonder how these people live there? Lol.

Is it happening every single night when some emergency took place? You can only close all windows to sleep soundly at night, without being disturbed by the siren.

For external noise, still can choose to shut all the windows. But for internal noise caused by inconsiderate neighbors staying above and besides our unit, it's becoming challenging. It's either you have a very strong mind to 'filter' all those noises or simply just give up by selling off your unit upon reaching MOP.

Having good and considerate neighbors is very very important, especially for those staying in a dense HDB or condo units.

Yes, there are still many flats and even high class condo units located near to main roads and even expressways.

It's a matter of how the occupants are able to adjust to such constant noisy environment.

Watch this Youtube video, this fella balloted his 2rm BTO in Punggol.

As you know, 2rm BTO usually doesn't have a good facing. His unit is directly facing TPE.

Wah, means your block is directly facing the main road? Is the unloading bay behind your block?

If the noise disrupt you much, you may need to consider double-glazed windows. I also look for such solution.

btw, is yours resale or BTO?

Not directly facing but rather close to the main road and the shopping mall.

Loading bay is across a road (to carpark) . Nosy bec there are a kopi shop and McD  I saw a AUS brand double-glazed window in FB .. but not sure good or not

Unit face expressway is the worst since expressway 24/7 always have traffic and during peak hours the traffic is a nightmare!

This fella should have know his unit face expressway when he choose his flat lo. Cannot complain after moved in. 😂

Balloting for BTO is only given 2 chances if I’m not wrong. Perhaps his first attempt didn’t manage to get and his last chance was the unit facing expressway.
I did my survey and was also confirmed by my friend that 2rm BTO doesn’t have good facing . The unit is either facing expressway, multistory car park, main road or simply surrounded by tall building.

Your are right. BTO 2 room flat all have no good facing. Most of the units face road. Maybe due to the price of the flat is cheap, so they give you bad facing.

Did you try sleeping with earplugs while waiting for double-glazed window to be installed?

Your block is closed to mainroad, shopping mall, coffeeshop and Mcd. The traffic around your block must be very heavy. People go in and out for shopping and dining. If your unit is unblocked by those amenities and it’s at the top floor, the noise travels up and you get the loudest at your unit.
i just get double-glazed window installed in my bedroom. It’s only effective if turning on the aircon, if I turn on my standing fan, I still can hear a little bit of noise. I pulled down my blackout blind, it helps to get a better sound proofing effect. I didn’t install those thick velvet curtain because it’s hard to maintain and it’s easy to attract dusts.
After several nights sleeping with aircon and double-glazed windows, I can conclude that it really reduces 60%of the unwanted noises. However, it didn’t 100% cut all the surrounding noises(very high frequency type)such as ambulance sirens, cars honking and loud motorbikes engines. I would say the noise is much more bearable compared to the previous time without that windows.

Same.. I already get used to all types of noise.. And I can sleep soundly till next day morning..

So its a matter of getting used to.. Maybe train the mind not to think of the negative of sound affecting us.. But think in more positive way.. Maybe that might help..
