Obscurest 1st Gear December 25, 2010 Share December 25, 2010 Folks, Really need advice on my next car. Im currently driving a 07 Forestor and my CO prefers a SUV thus i have scope down a few which i think is worth considering but need your advice to assist me to make a better decision. 1) 08 Forestor (Unfortunately a 4 speed machine but at least the newer model looks better than mine.. lolz) 2) Grand Vitara 2.0 (Unfortunately a 4 speed machine) (guess is the cheapest of all) 3) Nissan Murano 2.5 (Heard that this beast guzzle) 4) Honda CRV 2.0 5) Toyota RAV4 2.5 (is a 6 or 7 speed if i am not wrong) Need your adivce on the reliability as i think given the current COE, i guess I have to drive for at least 4yrs or when the COE tumbles. Most important of all, big bang for value !!! Dun know y the itch of being unfaithful is super strong during this bad time... Jeronlee 1st Gear December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 i would not switch from one forrester to another forrester. test drove most of them and the murano gave me the most luxurious feeling among all. if you want something sportier, i'd choose between CRV and RAV 4. being jap makes, they should all be fairly reliable. you didn't consider CX-7, tiguan? Keithchue 5th Gear December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 why not get the VW tiguan since the COE is so high, it is a 2L and would be a change from the usual jap models
Kilatz 1st Gear December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 of the lot, I have driven only the crv and the vitara. Vitara doesnt appeal to me. I drove my good friend's car and it is less than a year old but there is a lot of rattling in the dashboard compartment. The pickup is not good, makes a lot of noise but slow off the mark. Comfort is so so. CRV is so much better. Maybe because its a Honda make? I dunno. CO drives this and its a good car. Pickup is good. Fuel is about 9.5km/l. This car has some problem with the power window. The window will wind up and then auto come back down halfway... have to manually pull up the switch. But under guarantee so easily repaired by AD. Carnut Clutched December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 why not get the VW tiguan since the COE is so high, it is a 2L and would be a change from the usual jap models VW Tiguan (Tiger + Iguana), good suggestion!
Lomobug Clutched December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 Tiguan is good... very good features even on the basic model... much better quality interior than the lousy CRV of the year...

Most important of all, big bang for value !!! Dun know y the itch of being unfaithful is super strong during this bad time... Thanks I suggest 2007 BMW X3.... OMV 53k, selling 115k is actually value for money. You get IL6 engine, Xdrive and decent space. Most of the mileage are low 40k+. Drive until 150k then scrap still get back a good 28k. Try nego for dep 11k pa. Also this car is nice to to drive. Your wifey will love it. It is safe, decent power and rides like on rails. Downside is bumpy ride on bad roads... Took it once to Cameroon Highland, it has enough traction and power that pit it against the 325 coupe and definitely faster than the E60 523. I had fond memories of it.... Cybernation Neutral Newbie December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 I own the 2L Vitara currently. Kilatz is right about the poor pick up. Budget is the main reason why I bought it. Out of the choices (less vitara) I will choose the CRV, thou I dont really like the dashboard gearshift. RAV4 interior quite plasticky, Subaru is good but only 4 speed, Murano ok if you have the budget.
Vinceng Turbocharged December 26, 2010 Share December 26, 2010 Obscurest, If you want bang for buck with low rd tax, maintence, insurance and consumption, then you cannot go wrong with the Daihatsu Terios or Toyota Rush.
Obscurest 1st Gear December 26, 2010 Author Share December 26, 2010 Folks, Thanks for all the info. I am going for a resale car and due to my budget, i am trying to work out for a newer car that i can afford. My budget strictly not more than 80K. Becos of this, i am limiting myself to few choices. Thus Tiguan is out... hianz. BMW X3, guess can only drive it in my dream. CX7 is a Turbo, thus insurance and FC will be a killer in the long run. I did ask my CO to choose and this is the few choices that she gave me. Need more info on this 3 cars before i decide. 1) Murano 2.5 2) RAV4 2.5 3) CRV 2.5 Last 2 questions: 1) CRV 2.0 vs 2.5 2) RAV4 2.0 vs 2.5 Are there really a significant difference or the difference is not worth the extra money to go for. Thanks.
