Pisces69 6th Gear January 17, 2011 Share January 17, 2011 my ride makan about 1/5th oil according to the dipstick (between full to low marks) in just 2 months time, i so fedup than go back AD to complaint and they topup for me.... my ride less than 9 months old as of now.... alwayz heard TC car had to be service every 5000km, however the AD advise can go back every 10000km..... i service every 8000km though... Check yr owners handbook fr maintenance schedule. Lots of info in there. New car while running in wil eat more oil than normal. Just run in properly n monitor fm there. Anyway 1/5 oil is not that much. If its running in, then its quite normal. Maybe ask AD what oil is used fr yr car n next time u can buy yourself n diy e top-up. Turbo sud b 50 weight. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear January 17, 2011 Share January 17, 2011 Oic, mine's a volvo s60t5...so can mix engine oil yea? Which brand/type do u guys recommend? Ask yr AD what oil ty use. If ty dont tell u [which wil seem strange], just use a good quality oil like Mobil 1, 50 weight sud b fine. New car dont whack but take it easy till fully run in. Nice car u hv there. Dont get too stressed. Just enjoy yr ride.

Subaru's agent puts in 40 weight from Shell. Some suspect the higher viscosity actually just because it's cheaper. 50 weight generally only if you go to the track. It helps keep temps down. Octopus 3rd Gear February 8, 2011 Share February 8, 2011 not sure about the STi, but the manual recommends a 30 weight for the WRX. Just mentioning SAE 30 weight could be a bit misleading. Any indication if its ACEA A5 or A3? Cos a SAE 30 engine oil can falls under ACEA A5 or ACEA A3, and their minimium HTHS are different.

Joelkoh72 Neutral Newbie February 20, 2011 Share February 20, 2011 Very sorry to high jack the post abit. Like to consult regarding engine oil. I was advised by someone that my engine is a little loud. When he heard that i used 5W 40 currently, he asked me to change to 10W instead to give extra protection to my 5 yr old ride. Is this advice sound? Any kind soul can advise? thanks...
Isc10096 1st Gear February 20, 2011 Share February 20, 2011 (edited) in sg the number before the "w" dun matter. that number is the viscosity of the oil at 0 degrees celsius. its the number after the "w" that matters. if old engine thn perhaps u can try watever W50 if u find ur current one nt enuff protection.
