Beng2 5th Gear February 14, 2011 Share February 14, 2011 Borrow this thread: I am thinking of buying a 6 yr-old Camry 2.4 (the first batch of big backside Thai made cars). Dealers are quoting 40+k (depreciation $6k-plus ) I should be able to drive the Camry till COE up lorry, but if I decide to sell after two years, what do you think the dealer will offer? Just the PARF, or plus a bit of money for the body? Are 8 year-old cars exportable? Not asking bros here to predict the future, just want to gather more opinion and feedback from those who sold their old cars.

Hermitage 1st Gear April 28, 2011 Share April 28, 2011 I really hope to see those 1992/93 model Civic/Corolla out of the road to the yard when their COE expired in July/Aug this year, really a eye-sore, has been close to 20yrs on the road. No flaming pls coz I do see people renew another 10 yrs COE till 2019 when PQP was low at $2K to $3K+ but now want to ask $20K for their 20yrs old Civic/Corolla. Good luck to the next buyer of such cars Agree that some of these owners are capitalising on the current high COE price to profit, and this I cannot condone. However, I disagree that these cars should be taken off our roads. Some may be of the opinion that these cars are an eyesore, but if kept properly, I find these cars much more appealing than the new ones which just lack character, soul and that intangible X-factor that makes us petrolheads wanna take a 2nd look. Their charm is in their rarity and once extinct, we will NEVER again see them in Singapore. Automotive Heritage will be lost. New cars, though nice and shiny, are all too common and bore the living daylights outta me. The same, generic shapes, albeit in different colours, seen over and over again make them souless and without personality. In fact to me, they're really an eyesore! Show me a 90s Civic anyday, or even better this '73 Celica and you'd have me drooling outta every orifice!

Hermitage 1st Gear April 28, 2011 Share April 28, 2011 "Like" this!! Yeah babeee!!! What a beaut eh?! My dream car when I was young! Same here mate! Used to be one at the estate where I was living as a kid in the 80s, black with a "firebird" design on the bonnet. If you got the means, why not keep the legend alive?! It won't be cheap though! At $32K with a virtually expired COE, we're talking depreciation of nearly $8k a year if you were to renew COE on this baby!

Still... ... *droooooool* Haha, you're not too bad yourself, being able to upkeep the AE86 in Singapore for so long. I do feel that many of the older cars, though often being less refined and having fewer features, have far more "character" and "soul". To me, it would make the sourcing for parts which is part and parcel of owning an old car worth it. But having to renew the COE every 10 years is what kills interest in a lot of people, especially during times like this when the COE goes back to high prices. The "pat lok" is the main reason for the weak bank balance! But you too mate, lovely Crown you've got there! Or is it a Cressida? Whatever, very nice VIP look on your car. As if any moment, Chow Yun Fatt and Alex Mun could step outta it in black trench coats with both guns blazing! You're absolutely right about the stupid COE. Arrgh! Just thinking about it makes my blood boil...

Arrgh! Just thinking about it makes my blood boil... Haha! Anyone would have a weak bank balance owning any vintage car, unless you happen to be rich. But the time and money spent is well worth it. Mine's a Nissan Cedric diesel. Turning 19 this year. It used to have even more of a VIP look with a custom bodykit when it was the previous owner but he eventually restored it to stock form because of all the humps in carparks! He only left me the set of 18 inch rims. So far its been extremely reliable and only wear and tear parts replaced, nor was it very expensive to buy in the first place, but upkeeping it in HK is really expensive. To look on the bright side I can only be thankful I don't have to worry about when the COE is going to expire.

How many years has that been extinct here in Singapore I care not to speculate. Superb example of a well kept classic though, congrats! Yeah, heard about the terrible parking charges and other such stuff in HK, but a low price tag and most importantly NO COE makes it more than worth it to own and maintain.
