Bicolor 5th Gear April 29, 2011 Share April 29, 2011 Right, Nissan Cedric. WoW!! How many years has that been extinct here in Singapore I care not to speculate. Superb example of a well kept classic though, congrats! Yeah, heard about the terrible parking charges and other such stuff in HK, but a low price tag and most importantly NO COE makes it more than worth it to own and maintain. Actually not extinct yet, there are still quite a number running around Singapore's roads as taxis! They'll be extinct by 2014 though, as the last batch was imported by companies like SMRT in 2014. I sometimes shop for spare parts at Singapore scrapyards which scrap taxis. ↡ Advertisement

Hermitage 1st Gear April 29, 2011 Share April 29, 2011 DIESEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah. A far better choice in HK where petrol is even more ex than in sg. Also, diesel engines can use clean, renewable bio-fuels without any modifications. So when push comes to shove, it is the diesel engine that will prevail! Gaybhari 1st Gear April 29, 2011 Share April 29, 2011 Yeah man, these old cars are serious eyesores. I hate sharing the road with them when they belong in scrapyards That's my view. Not happy?? Too bad.. Just drive in to the LTA approved scrapyards. No HU, no spare tires, doesn't matters at all, they are stripping down to bare body or half-cut body and sell the parts to 3rd world countries. Since 1995, I think I have already sent 5 (10yrs old) and 1 (15yrs old car) out of my 12 cars that I had owned over the years to the yard. This coming May, I be going with my friend to the scrapyard to scrap his 10yrs old $101 COE paid Nissan Sunny. I told my friend that I make sure I go with him to the yard to scrap his run-down car and not let those dealers renew COE and con people into buying. Also help to recycle to the new COE pool 6 months later. But, pls make sure go to LTA to get your cash rebate if any immediately after that when the scrapyards issue you a letter of confirmation of scrappage I really hope to see those 1992/93 model Civic/Corolla out of the road to the yard when their COE expired in July/Aug this year, really a eye-sore, has been close to 20yrs on the road. No flaming pls coz I do see people renew another 10 yrs COE till 2019 when PQP was low at $2K to $3K+ but now want to ask $20K for their 20yrs old Civic/Corolla. Good luck to the next buyer of such cars

Gaybhari 1st Gear April 29, 2011 Share April 29, 2011 Haha! Anyone would have a weak bank balance owning any vintage car, unless you happen to be rich. But the time and money spent is well worth it. Mine's a Nissan Cedric diesel. Turning 19 this year. It used to have even more of a VIP look with a custom bodykit when it was the previous owner but he eventually restored it to stock form because of all the humps in carparks! He only left me the set of 18 inch rims. So far its been extremely reliable and only wear and tear parts replaced, nor was it very expensive to buy in the first place, but upkeeping it in HK is really expensive. To look on the bright side I can only be thankful I don't have to worry about when the COE is going to expire. U must be cracked.. As if holding on to an old ugly noisy rough polluting slow car isn't bad enough.. u still waste money go maintain it and modify it.. Go spend that money and buy a better car lar.. I think Cedric's are the older ones.... with hand-gear! Still quite a number of Cedrics around, mostly belonging to SMRT. Only a very small number belonging to CityCab and SilverCab. They are 5 speed manual but with the typical floor-mount shifter. My own has a column shift gearbox which is surprisingly relaxing to operate. I like it for specific reasons and its my own money so not your problem. BTW didn't expect to see you back after the March holidays. Still waiting for you to post pics of your Lambo Otherwise stop criticizing others' cars when it doesn't concern you at all.
