Came across this article and was wondering about what double way shock effect absorbers are and Googled it (still haven't found anything about how it works or what it is).

 

One of the results that came up had text that was VERY similar to what was written.

content looks 80% similar..

 

definitely will fail a essay write up in TurnItIn..

 

then again, such definitions of how mechanisms work is more or less the same.. cos the physics involved cannot be change much..

Thats what I thought too about the similarities.

 

Well he should at least give credit where it is due rather than make it seem like his own, and also at least use the right info!!!

1, isnt right as only some dampers work that way.

For 2, whats this "noiseless response" thingy linked to it??? Do standard shock absorbers even make a lot of noise? Anyway pressurised nitrogen is used to reduce foaming of the oil, and not for some noise related purpose.

But it's only a small section anyway. And it's not completely wholesale. Got some paraphrasing also.

 

Paraphrasing without credit is still plagiarism isn't it? Esp since its this blatant in this case.

what sgcarmart did is paraphrasing. which is changing the words, structure etc that it does not look like the original.

Well plagiarism is defined as passing off another's ideas as your own, not copying word for word (feel free to check any dictionary). Why do you think wikipedia has references at the bottom?

It's kinda hard to determine whether the information in that article are "facts" or "ideas" actually.

 

But you do raise a good point.

Well in this case some of the facts are not right which makes them ideas which in turn. Besides IIRC, any fact that is original and/or not common knowledge is legally and academically counted as an idea thus credit needs to be given. Furthermore in this case the phrases and words used even with paraphrasing was very similar.

 

Anyway I do know you write for them too. At least crediting a source may be something you may want to consider to cover your bum. Better to be safe than sorry. In your instance, I noticed you like to write a lot of opinion pieces. You may want to choose a source that either agrees or disagrees with you, cite and credit their statement and explain why you agree or disagree with them. It will make your writings even stronger.

No worries. It was a little worrying that a commercial entity didn't credit its information source, and to be honest if I didn't google something i didn't know about and notice the similarities in how it was written (esp some of the weird errors which would not be an error if linked to a specific damper), it may have gone totally unnoticed.
