Skanps Neutral Newbie April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 My car comes with a stock tyre 225/50/17. Considering changing to CSC5 if price is "affordable". However, seems that they only have 215/50/17 or 225/45/17 - No 225/50/17. Is it safe to fit either 215/50/17 or 225/45/17 in this case? Any trade off? Thanks! ↡ Advertisement
Shull Turbocharged April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 215/50/17 will give you a -1.52% change in diameter. While 225/45/17 will give you +3.43% increase in diameter. I don't see much problem, but give me a choice between wider and thinner tires, i'll go for wider anytime.
Darkblue 1st Gear April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 215/50/17 is safer, next is 245/45/17 or 235/45/
Shull Turbocharged April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 215/50/17 is safer, next is 245/45/17 or 235/45/17 215 is thinner than his original tires, i dont think it's wise to go for thinner than stock tires. The amount of grip might be compromised. 225 width has at least more contact area, although FC might be slightly affected..
Niltrams 3rd Gear April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 215/50/17 will give you a -1.52% change in diameter. While 225/45/17 will give you +3.43% increase in diameter. I don't see much problem, but give me a choice between wider and thinner tires, i'll go for wider anytime. Beg your pardon, but I don't see how a profile 45 tyre can be bigger than a profile 50 tyre, given both have 225 width. In fact the 225/45/17 tyre will have an overall smaller diameter by 3.41 %, out of the recommended range of 3%. Your wheel is smaller, means your ride is also lowered to a small degree. 215/50/17 also not recommended as your stock is 225 width for a reason. Ur closest fit for same diameter as stock is 245/45/17, but this will increase your FC due to the wider width of the tyres. In that case, since there are no suitable tyre sizes for CSC5, do look out for other brands instead of trying to "force fit" an "affordable" CSC5. Skanps Neutral Newbie April 19, 2011 Author Share April 19, 2011 Thanks for all the replies. Think still better to look for the original 225/50/17 which both CSC3 and Michelin PS3 have this size. Any bros ever compare CSC3 and PS3? Think wet/dry grip should be on par, more interested to know in terms of NOICE and COMFORT. Cheers!
