Just few days ago, I pump Shell V power as there is promotion which is same price as 98. Just curious about it and I try the V power. It is half tank when I pump. I do feel it is more smooth in power transmission and a little bit more fuel consumption saving compare to 95 as i do not need to step harder for the car to move faster. Anyone pump higher grade normally than 95?

I am glad to be in this thread to learn from all of you too.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you Merry Christmas too!

V power is good. from my experience techron is truly clean carbon deposit. I use caltex98 from start.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Prius' riders.

Low compression Prius' engine (compression is about 9:1 where normal petrol engine can go 10:1 or higher) should not cause early detonation or knocking. The additive added to higher octane fuel to prevent knocking will actually reduce the BTU of fuel. It's actually a disfavour - by inhibit and reduce the sensitivity of fuel ignition quality.  However, one of the + points of higher octane fuel allows engines to run advance timing or earlier ignition by deceiving the knock sensors. Advance ignition in high rpm translates to more power (which is also true).

Now the negatives: Higher-octane petrol actually contains less BTU or energy than lower octane petrol.  Unless you are a high rpm driver or our Priuses were tuned to higher timing (which I am doubted), you may not getting more fuel saving but quite definitely, quieter and more power at high rpm.

err. what is dual layer fully covered mean?

Dual layer means there is the base TPU shape conforming car mat, on top of that is the removable mesh mat like the 3A ones.

Fully covered means the TPU layer full covers every felt part of the car floor, including the vertical edges, as well as any area between the seat and the car door.

something like this pic taken from the internet...

My personal experience and belief is that higher octane gasoline gives no extra benefit compared to lower octane ones if the engine does not require it. High octane is to help the gasoline to avoid early detonation under higher compression. So if the compression is not that high, using a higher octane gasoline does nothing more than a lower octane gasoline. The only positive I think it gives is all in the mind of the driver. So if you feel good about it, go ahead. I personally just go with the lowest octane level of gasoline recommended by the manufacturer.

quick check, does anybody try to do some tricks to prevent things from dropping into the battery vent in the 2nd row?

i suspect biscuits crumbs can fall inside and attract cockroaches and ants

i guess few ways to have vent free from dust/insects:

1. Use 3M similar car mat which can trap dirt before reaching the vent (thats why custom mat can help you this)

i know one company doing this custom car mat, you can call ian for enquiry

https://www.customisedcarmats.sg/?gclid=Cj0KCQiApILhBRD1ARIsAOXWTzvHL2-eQnhl_j6IRu-lLp4-Q_GqwfLOWxLI-6hffAriGRb6jkV4Z-UaApgMEALw_wcB

what i got from him for prius+ :

Korean type mats 12-15mm.

Full set + Standard boot : $140

Full set + big boot : $160

Big boot, meaning it cover whole set (3rd row seat folded, as 5 seater).

Standard boot, meaning it cover only half (3rd row seat open, as 7 seater)

free imprint provided for "PRIUS". but for TOYOTA embroidery $5/piece.

2. Use strong vac to suck out all the dirt inside.

can try to use Dyson or any wet/dry vac to suck the dirt out from vent

3. Impose clean car rules; no eat/ no food allow inside the car.

i know its hard especially family car with children having fun with foods, but if you want your car clean from insect, better stick with the rules.

Neutral Newbie

Hi all, I just took delivery of the Prius Plus and I have a question.

Is there a screen or filter for the HV Battery Air Intake under the driver's seat? Or some DIY solution for it?

Thank you!

I asked same question in previous thread, answer was to get a good vacuum and suck the dust out .

So which portable vacuum is good ? Dyson seems too damaging for the pocket

According to my recent record, one barrel petrol 38 litre drove 790km. Car showed 4.4l/100km in average for this barrel. So the car calculation on FC might not be trustable.

oic, thanks for sharing, still quite good @ 20km/L,

i never thought of getting 20km/litre on a MPV previously.

no wonder many grab drivers taking this model.

If you can achieve 18 - 20 km/l, there is really very little you can complain for a wagon that weight more than 1.5 ton and can take 7 or big loading with the 3rd row seats downed.  I think the most important objective other than fuel saving, the smoothness and quietness of the car's operations should be appreciated.  For examples, you don't feel the thump when you change Forward/Reverse with the drive-by-wire joystick. You don't feel the air-con compressor abruptly cut in/out and you don't hear belts/pulleys noises like in the last car you drove. Even the engine/air-con cooling fans are so silent and smooth in operations.  The car feel tight and most notably, the Atkinson engine runs without extreme heat - Go feel it! The engine is warm but never too hot unless you run the engine at 4000 rpm all the time:)  Actually, the more fuel you saved in a drive, the cooler is the engine (this explains why Toyota hybrid car will last).

Enjoy driving Toyota Hybrid-Synergy-Drive.

well said!

yes for the fuel consumption and the flexibility of extra 3 row is very good.

However, i thought the road noise insulation could be better, its better than outlander but still can feel the road noise on the rough 3rd lane in expressway
