S4vtec 3rd Gear June 16, 2011 Share June 16, 2011 Hi all , My old and thirsty car is reaching its 6th year soon and looking at the sky high prices of new cars now, i can only afford financially and physcologically a used car. Having gone through the potential cadidates, narrowed down to the following few subaru WRX pignose Honda Accord Euro R 2005-2006 Golf GTI 5 door Honda Civic 2.0m Si Would appreciate comments and suggestions especially current or ex owners of such models with regards to their reliability, real world fuel consumption, insurance, and common issues associated with the car. But bear in mind the insurance might be one of the highest in your choices , not forgetting the FC as well. Gti is a good selection for power & practicality but also bear in mind the maint cost as it is a conti . Euro R is also a good choice as i had before but bear in mind , it is a old model already . Civic is new but has the least power in your choices . So it all bottoms down to what u want & can afford in the long run . EVO: car too ex, insurance too ex Type R: car too ex Golf R32: unproven Scirocco: High depreciation STI: Within by budget. Jolie888 Clutched June 16, 2011 Share June 16, 2011 (edited) My views: Subaru WRX pignose A bit of a Beng ricer and previous owner probably whacked the living daylights out of the engine. Boxer engine becomes more difficult to tune with age ... need manometer to balance. May have to go back to MI, if engine/turbo problem persists. In fact, I think that the newer SG-T variant would be much more 'accomplished' and would not have been whacked till thy-kingdom-come by their owners ... besides, the SG-Ts are sold in auto-tranny here in SG anyway. Honda Accord Euro R PI car ... old model. Parts may be difficult to get (e.g. smashed body panels, light casings etc. after accident), and so will workshop mechanic competancy to upkeep the K20A engine in the longer term. Its ride would still be much better than the track-inspired F2D-R ... the latter would give you and family ride fatigue and a sore bum, after long-haul drives (e.g. up NSHW). These Japun power houses are never meant to be Gran-Turismo (GT) cars lah. 2005-2006 Golf GTI 5 door DSG and mechatronics reliability issues ... but I believe the GTI's 2.0 TFSI is mated with the 6-wet DSG - but still not without problems. Other electro-mechanical problems on power windows, central locking, air-cond, drivetrain, etc. may arise, after 5-6 years. They don't build VW Golf GTIs like they used to any more (compared with the MkI and MkII GTIs, which are considered VW classics). Honda Civic 2.0m Si At 155 BHP stock, this is the most anaemic engine among the lot. 0-100 unimpressive. But a family car it can do. Supported by KM agent, so longer term maintenance commitment is guarateed. Body very soft though. One crash and front/back already pengyet.
