Mitsubishi DiamondTouch a.k.a. Multi-Touch Technology from 2006.

Apple is such good marketeer :) They made themselves the inventor of something available 5 years ago. Nevertheless, they build good quality products, but let's give the right credit to the right people.

before Iphone.. to me la..all the so called smartphones..just dun seems to be sophisticated enough. Im not an IT guy..so I have to go by touch, feel and see. Thats why so many brands can co-exist.. Nokia, Motorola, etc.

Then came the Iphone.. suddenly, the standard is being pushed way up. Suddenly all the phones that came out after iphone seems to look similar..and more sophisticated.

survival of the fittest...I suppose.

I have nothing against android phones. Just that they dun appeal to me.

What I don't like is those android users whom like to smear/insult apple products/users.

If you find android is good buy lor. If you feel BB is useful, use lor. Siao..

no la, not all are like that. Apple fans too have their share of smear.

anyway, after 5 days of the droid, all i can is it's a fantastic OS. I just love the way it runs like Mac OS, having widgets, shortcuts, folders, manage files whether in sd card or cloud. you got every damn option u can think of!

a few issues though-

1) the auto brightness doesn't work as well. gets too dim at times in normal lighting. so i basically turned it off.

2) the keyboard not as fluid as IOS. moving around text not as seamless as IOS.

3) enlarging of web pages not as smooth too.

4) turn to silent mode must unlock screen. still easy but one step extra. but the widgets give me quicker access to things. so give and take here.

i do agree it's a pointless comparison cos we all have different needs/wants. Imagine if Ferrari cost the same as BMW and Merc, do you think everyone will buy Ferrari? I doubt it. I know i will but not all will. Some just want a simpler car and i don't mean this in sarcasm but my honest opinion is there's less things one can do with the IOS. Let's not take jailbreaking into account as any mod can make even a cheap car fast. And coming from an iphone user for 3 gens, i know what i am talking about.

As for the Samsung phone itself, i do appreciate its lightness and yet, a bigger form. But the powerful OS, without all the restrictions like Apple, is the clincher for me. And i won't convince anyone to buy. In fact, i already told me wife not to buy Android cos i know her usage style. Like the car i drive too. i rarely tell ppl to buy cos i know they'll end up hating me. I'll only recommend to them if i know they have the personality to go with it. so basically, as long as u like, it's good enough.

Basically, iOS slows me down when I'm multi-tasking, thus its basic and utilitarian. A lot of show, and lesser go, esp for a computing platform. The saving grace of the ipad is that it has far more apps than any other tablet, and it forces me to focus on one task instead of multi-tasking like a frantic orang utan [laugh] I use them both quite well together with my phone giving me all my instant data, and when I need to focus (or the screen real estate) I go to that same data on the ipad and work from it. That being said, my next tablet is going to be a 7 incher... at least I hope it means that it will be lighter [laugh]

interesting 7 incher choice. i'm presently using the ipad2 but after my droid experience, i wana get the Galaxy. so yr recommending the previous 7 inch? won't resolution, screen size be an issue despite the light weight?

With better glass and material engineering, very soon there should be commercially available table-top muti-touch displays for gaming, and maybe even operating your kitchen appliances, home appliances, whiteboard on table-top and more.

If I have that screen, I will replay the Warcraft ... [:p] really damn cool...

The tens of millions of people who've bought iPhones didn't buy them for the specs, they bought them because the iPhone does what they need it to, or what they want it to.

trust me... 99% of the plp who bought it not because what iphone is capable of... Its just a trends.... even Steve said it... customers dont know what they want.

if you remember what happen to hello kitty 10 yrs ago... and tamaguchi a few yrs before that... u will undestand what I meant.... history just repeat itself, over n over again...

This is award-winning design for LG Prada KE850 from 2006:

iPhone look-alike ? iPhone wasn't available until 2007.

This design follows the PDA phones then... who dares to build a phone with only 1 press-able button ? [:p]

Also, everything was so small on screen that you must use a stylus but iPhone goes on the contrary by removing the use of stylus. The response time and graphics also have an edge over the android phones then... [cool]

I didn't say prada has stylus, I was referring to those PDA phones and some of the smart phones... To be more specific, I mean Apple actually eliminates the use of conventional stylus and truly only allows your fingers to navigate.

Well go have a look and play around with sites with small fonts (e.g. MCF [:p] ) and see if it's suitable. It's fine for me, but may not be for you. I'm on the original iPad and I reckon a 7 inch screen should be fine after playing with the GTab.

P.S. Have you upgraded to iOS5? If you have, are you having any issues with Safari constantly crashing??? It'd really starting to bug me....

Don't worry, their implementation was so bad, they said they're going to stop with Android and move onto WP.... Hope they don't ruin it [laugh]

Errm, you do realize that the first Android phone appeared in 2008/2009 right?

The problem with iOS then was that it simply couldn't function as well as the real smartphones back then. However it's capabilities seemed awesome to those who had never used a smartphone as this group of people did not know what they were missing.

It's a lot better now, but theres of lot of it still there's, and that's what drives many people who are like me away from the platform. To me the one button with soft keys either at the top or bottom is damn inconsistent and annoys me, but if you're not a power user, then I do see how it can be glossed over.

If to compare one main thing that apple can win hands down, it will be the Chinese input, be it pinyin or hand writing. I have been recommending my older friends or relative who dare not touch these gadget to get an iPad.

For android, hand writing input suck big time! At least apple was according to the correct stroke, and it recognize the normal way you write as long as you get the stroke right, a good refreshing course for me as I realize some words I had been writing the wrong way for almost 40 years!!

[thumbsup] this is the uncle killer. in fact apple was one of the first to support multilanguage so well in all their products, i got imac and ipod, bcos they were the only products that supported all english, chinese and japanese seamlessly out of box. even asian products from japan, korea or china couldn't do it right. but this was 2006.
