lag when left to the DSG to do its stuff or when lag when you paddle shift yourself?

i think he shift too early, even in manual mode or when paddle shifter is on, certain upshift or downshift is not allowed until certain RPM. the system does not let driver control the gearbox totally (to protect gearbox)

I beg to differ here. I have driven the golf r32 and R and the R32 is equally if not, more engaging to drive at higher rpm. I still a old school folk that believe in no replacement for displacement .

if you are old school as you state, then you should be head over heels for fat torque curves at sub 1500rpm levels

So I guess the bros here who has paddle shift are all using stock?

 

Not really. I got the aftermarket paddle shift set from Japan for my cousin's WRX.

 

The stock shift stick is in an awkward angle when engaged.

 

Works like a charm and made in dry carbon material. Good stuff.

 

Now you can concentrate on maintaining your driving line [thumbsup]

just thinking out loud, hypothetical:

 

i think no such thing so far, but how about Paddle Shift Manual (that means with clutch pedal), no gear stick, the paddles do all the gear selection, sequential in: R, N, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and maybe 6 or 7 even

 

and the gearbox will not downshift automatically when you slow down, (as is the case I believe for most paddle-shifted cars, once speed too slow ~20km/h will down gear for you to 1st or 2nd to move off), so if you don't downshift yourself or forget to step clutch, will stall engine--in other words, a full manual, but gear engagement is automated, hence using paddles?

just stick to mid lane, right lane is full of shltty right turners, left lane is full of shltty illegal parkng

It might be me, no matter how smooth the paddle shift could be, the drive from a manual really makes you enjoy your ride.

 

You will be more enthu to drive, to control, to understand your car. It is when you really feel you are the one driving.

 

The passion for a car never dies when you drives a manual.
