Vega Turbocharged October 28, 2014 Author Share October 28, 2014 You from 42? yes. you too? Aiyah actually no big secret liao lah, why are we beating round the bush, already phrase out and NS unit MR liao.... Listed in Wiki is considered declassified liao. The slogan "Through thick and thin" started from my batch donkey years ago... Will miss this "Unseen, Unheard, Unsung, yet done" battalion. Goodbye 46SAR, the battalion is than SAF deserves but not the one it needs now. (cue from The Dark Knight...lol) after seeing my old love again, I can still remember the smell........ It's no secret, some of the chassis are war veterans from the Six Day war. After the war the Mexicans concluded that the 75mm gun is ineffective against the larger tanks and upgrade their AMX13 with 90mm cannon. They sold the rest of the 75mm to other countries including Singapore. Same for our M113s, some of them are Vietnam war veterans reburbish for us. some of the earlier batch have reinforce steel plates are the front axle to protect the driver from AT mine blasts. And some had scars of bullet holes being filled up and sealed as part of the refurbishing. Hear the US sold us the APCs super cheap and that's how SAF armor suddenly got 2 battalions worth of APCs overnight. I heard they sold us $1 a pcs. ↡ Advertisement
Pocus Turbocharged October 28, 2014 Share October 28, 2014 (edited) I can only see the ground being damaged. Who is going to pay for it ?? The track got rubber pads so the road won't spoil so fast. The track will damage first due to wear and tear. I pity the crew that will have to "break track" to replace/fix it. yes. you too? after seeing my old love again, I can still remember the smell........ I heard they sold us $1 a pcs. LOL, that's what I heard too.. NS urban legend? Anyway I heard $1 is purely chassis only, excluding the engine, electronics, road wheels/axles and weapon systems. Pocus Turbocharged October 28, 2014 Share October 28, 2014 (edited) any black beret brethren who had participated in Skill-At-Arms? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfJlkSl5noo During my time, the Skill-At-Arms is serious business but there was an accident in one of the events where the AMX-13 overturned on in a armor race. The umpire, who was sitting at the instructor chair strapped outside the tank turret during that time was crushed to death. The competition was cancel and banned since. Which is a bummer cos it's really a good event to up our skill levels. I see now they brought back the event. I guess with the newer and more stable Leopard 2SG and Bionix platform and probably made the competition safer. I guess with the newer and more stable Leopard 2SG and Bionix platform and probably made the competition safer. I was 1 of the participants of this SAA event back in 94. that tank which overturned is from 41SAR. Back than, they have many events as compared to what we saw on the video. they put M113 from diff units to race against each other. Same goes to SM1. it was during 1 of the practices that the unlucky SM1 overturned. if you remember BMR terrain, you need to go down a very steep slope before you reach the butt. that tank tighten the track too much in order to gain speed. once the driver pull hard left going down that slope, the track broke and it flip. it happened so fast that the tank commander (PL SGT) couldn't execute the overturn drill......... we were very surprise the whole event was not cancel. not even 1 min of silence for this dead soldier. SOA representatives (mainly WOs) was very unhappy and they anyhow fired as a silence protest. and yes, SAA is serious business. our CO order was don't worry about damaging the vehicles! we want to win........ and we did!! His driver or gunner who is our instructor behave very different thereafter.

Spinelli_ck 6th Gear October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 (edited) 1-2 years earlier before this accident, the unit also lost a tank commander during a major exercise when the SM1 overturned. he used to be my section mate during the BMT. my OC had the unenviable honour of pulling his body out. Pocus Turbocharged October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 That's the major problem with most light tanks, their small width makes their super unstable , especially if their main role is to maneuver on rugged terrain. And the top heavy turret does not do any good to it. Thank God we upgraded to a wider and more stable MBT like the Leopard. I've seen the Leopard during reservist andcontrary to popular believe, the Leopard is actually quite small and very low profile. It's slightly wider than a prime trailer and slight as tall as the m113. I always thought the Leopard is as big as the monstrous M60 CEV that our engineers use, but it's actually smaller. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M728_Combat_Engineer_Vehicle ↡ Advertisement
