If you can live with this unusual rear door & window and large rear blind spot.

Get the manual if you want fuss-free motoring + 200 horses (typically from competitor's 2.0L turbo car) galloping out from a 1.6 THP engine.

Other than that the jetta is a "german" car (but not made in germany), the jetta can't really compete at all. As VW showroom is just next door to C&C, i went over and you just look at the jetta interior quality compared to DS4 is totally no fight at all. And of course VW's infamous long service queue and problematic DSG gearbox, nothing to consider. I will admit i was considering Jetta too until the DS4 came out.

It is fairer to compare DS4 with Jetta Sport, not Comfort cos Comfort is only 122hp/200Nm.

I see your point, so you are thinking of buying a new car? how about peugeot 508? I really like the shape and it's using the same engine as the DS4

When the 508 first started appearing in car mags i was like "wow! i wanna get this!". But somehow the car in the flesh lacks the "x factor". Main problem is, for me, it has very little road presence as its design does not have anything eye catching. I still remember the first time i saw it on the road, it took me quite a few seconds before i realised what it was - and no wow feeling at all. I tink u park it next to a Kia K5 and nobody will even notive the 508. Sad. And its more exp than DS4.

Really? Not many on the roads but I did see a black one before, I thought it looked quite nice, I think the nice colours for the 508 are Black and White. The K5 is pretty nice too if you are not a badge whore, but paying $136K for a Korean car is a tough decision to make. A budget of $136K can't seem to get much these days, it was the price of a brand new BMW 3 series a few years back.

Ya there are not many on the road. As usual, consumers are often controlled by mindset. They buy what everyone is buying. So most ppl are buying VW. Somehow French cars have less appeal.

When it comes to car prices, we really can't compare anything more than 2 years ago. Things have changed so much. I think for below $140k, there are still plenty of choices actually. All the 1.6L japanese and korean cars are available. Some 2L korean cars also can just about make it. All the Malaysia and china cars also have. For conti, all the VW Polo and Jettas and the lower level Golf also can get. And Opel Astra and the Citreon C4, C5, DS3, DS4 and Peugeor 308 & 508.

So actually got many choices. The ACTUAL problem is that, in our minds, many of these cars are simply not worth the price now. The opportunity cost is not too high. Even a simple 1.6L Jap or korean car is not close to 6 digit region. And Jetta sport which used to be $90k+ is now $130k+.

The choices are there - the value is not.

I agree... difficult to digest paying 130k for KIA when it was almost the same for an E90. What to do... COE is a killer.

But can still find some value with PI cars if you look hard enough. Especially with VAG cars since they're in fashion now. If lucky, can get better than 50k cheaper with more option than AD. But this is only for conti cars I think, not much price difference with Jap PI cars.

You are right, what you say also remind me of our housing, so expensive now, Singapore is really an expensive place to live in, paying $140K for a perceived non premium conti car is also abit too much for me to take, but back to your selection of cars: for the 1.6 category, how about the renault megane hatchback or the new ford focus....looks pretty cool to me....

I find renault cars generally ugly. I dun understand why anyone would buy the fluence or lattitude. The only nice one now if their 2 door Megane RS.

I was at Ford showroom yesterday. New focus was on the rotating turn table. Looks wise quite alright but the moment i saw it is normal 1.6L engine with 125hp no need to see already. No point. I looking for those 1.6L turbo cars. My current ride already 1.6L with 125hp.

But the upcoming Mondeo is nice.

The peugeot 308 turbo facelift is a nicer car!

I strongly disagree. Its just a "normal" hatchback. Not so different from Golf and Astra. If i had to choose among these 3, Astra probably first choice followed by 308 then Golf last (due to gearbox and service issues). I rather get something a little different instead of just another same old hatch.

Both cars no power. I m looking for those 1.6L turbos so performance is defintiely one of my main criteria. And do you know the price of the CT200H?? Almost $200k! That kind of money would rather get Audi A4 "lite", Merc C180K or BMW's 118i.

I see, what about mini cooper S? the upcoming mondeo looks nice and with the 2litre ecoboast should be able to deliver 200bhp, that would be cool, but I suspect it will be selling at about 145K. as for renault, they were F1 champions twice, so give it to them for some of their sportier model, fluence and lattitude are seriously underpowered

Hello, mini cooper S - $170k++

I highly doubt the new mondeo will be below $150K. If it is, i will be the first in the queue :)

Like i said for renault, only Megane RS is good but i dun want 2 door anymore. Too inconvenient.

Bro, if you want within budget and a car that fits all your criteria, will be a tough find la, maybe DS4 is the best choice for you then
