QQDreamer 4th Gear March 19, 2012 Share March 19, 2012 Just to check, alternator comes in different amp ratings. Does it mean a higher Amp alternator is better? Need bros who have knowledge on this to advise. If the higher the amp will it damaged the electrical circuits in the car? Or blown up the fuse? My car uses a 75A but thinking to upgrade it to 90A. Any advise will be appreciated. ↡ Advertisement

Check that there is space for the bigger capacity battery Usually fuse do not just blow up with slightly more charging current alone
QQDreamer 4th Gear March 19, 2012 Author Share March 19, 2012 So will there be any implications if i upgrade it from 75A to 90A?
Ishiwgao 3rd Gear March 19, 2012 Share March 19, 2012 So will there be any implications if i upgrade it from 75A to 90A? alternators will draw power from the engine and charge according to demand, aka how low on charge the battery has. So if your ICE is drawing a lot of power continuously, then yes getting a bigger alternator might help (but not necessarily with a bigger battery). Make sure when you buy the alternator, it is able to fit onto your serpentine belt. Best is buy a direct 1 to 1 replacement. The higher charging alternator may cause a higher fuel consumption, but it's negligible since you already have your powerful ICE Alternatively, the reason why i said continuously above is because if your ICE is not drawing so much current till your battery depletes more than what it can charge, then maybe a bigger alternator isn't necessary. Getting a capacitor for this is good enough. Connect it in parallel to your battery, and it can supply the necessary power when your ICE demands, which i expect shouldn't really be continuously. Dont know how big your ICE setup is. remember! a capacitor is NOT a second battery. It just helps you to give more power to your accessories when needed, but if your battery depletes more than it can charge, a capacitor won't help.
