come on who will drive a car at constance 7k rmp? even not at 5k rmp from point a to point b. tat's why we need to shift to higher gear ma. then if you drive a monster car with good high rev perforamce then the car should come with a shift peddle or sport drive mode so the driver can play with the gear. this thread is about "4 Speed Automatic vs 5 or 7 Speed" so why don we just admit that more gear is better then less and we can all go to bed? ..... ops is 4 in the morning lol how come i still awake haha

I'm referring to the dip in rpm as I don't dip by ard 2k rpm during shifting.

It's highly unlikely that you are at 40km/h at 7k rpm @ 2nd gear. (first gear more likely)

Friend, I think this expertz playing with toy car. Where got car 2nd gear at 40km/h at 7k rpm? Even 1st gear also only 4k to 5k rpm lah. 7k rpm can hit 55km/h.

No leh, she ever said she can do 90 degree turn across 2 lanes @ 90km/h in a Mazda 6.

She said we listen. Nonsense if you ask me. Even a 4wd evolution cup corner at 70 will have skiing sound, much less a Mazda 6 cup 90 degree corner shun shun. Like that I also want to change Mazda 6.

I had the 5 speed C-class and recently changed to the 7 speed C-class. There is a difference in performance; picking up is faster and smoother (my tacho rpm never exceeds 3000rpm), merging into expressway is seamlessly smooth. One more good thing about this 7gtronic, it knows the car is going down steep incline and will hold the gear automatically without shifting up.

My ancient 4AT Wish already has auto downshift when going down slope after tapping once on the brake.

IMO, new AT and its logic is intend for better FE and smoother power delivery.

manual is still safer than auto.

when u jam brake, a manual can stall. an auto cant.

btw, having 5-6 gears on auto is good. esp in terms of petrol savings.

imagine gear 4 at 3000rpm.

gear 5 can bring it down to 1.5k-2k rpm. saves fuel there already

Agree with above but on the other hand my old wish is 4 speed auto and saves more fuel than 5 speed manual cerato.......both 2006.........why?

the engines used are different

put that 5 speed manual into your wish and you'll see greater fuel savings

even at 55km/h your engine hasn't run out of breath right?

i'm not so much into facts and figures, but you get the point don't you?

You mean a 1.8 lit engine can consume less fuel than a 1.6 lit engine?? Manual or auto....

This is something I can never understand having drove both cars.

Comparing your car(Mark X) and my car (Euro R) which has almost similar bhp and same number of gears. the approach of gearing is quite different due to the differences in engine characteristics

i think you are getting out of point, just for the sake of replying. [:p]

we should take for example, comparing Mark X (4-spd vs 7-spd) or Euro R (4-spd vs 7-spd).

you are not apple-to-apple comparison, instead you are comparing engine to engine when the topic is discussing about gears.

i think i will stop here. :D

think you will be very very surprised if people tell you that a Hyundai Azera 3.3A V6 consumes about the same fuel as a Mazda 1.6A. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] But, it is true lah. Sometimes, logical things are not logical if you are just comparing in one dimension.

Having driven a CVT for more than 5 years and now on a 7 speed DSG, there are pros and cons in using different gearboxes for different vehicles in the way we drive.

Bro.. Sorry to say.. Many people are claiming the DSG gearbox is problematic.. Is it true?

Next time at the top of Sheares bridge to Rochor, slow to 50 km/h at the top (I am sure your Wish will auto downshift), then let your Wish cruise down the slope without braking. Tell me as your Wish gain speed going down, does it upshift.
