Count_duku 4th Gear May 15, 2012 Share May 15, 2012 I just got my tie rod ends changed at almost 120,000km, cured the steering loose feeling that I was having for 2 years. Very pleased, though the steering noises are still there. This repair, and the cam sensor replacement restored the 159 experience to almost like when I first got the car. Now only left the clutch to be replaced .. ↡ Advertisement

Prepping the car up before I head to KL for Biz trip Nope .. not changing car soon. I thought the performance and steering issues were going to take time and lots of money to resolve. Surprisingly these were fixed for < $700, problems that I have been living with for 2 years. I think the main issue was chasing out the symptoms and checking it with Peter/Alfaowner.com. That took time. Sometimes parts were available, sometimes they need to be ordered. Quite a lot of trial and error fixes as well like swapping air filter, cleaning it, cleaning the MAF sensor, etc. Almost gave up on the car .. The front lower, brace tower's screw kept hitting high carpark humps or sudden depression on roads.. I'm upgraded to Prodrive 18s, on standard ride height n it's still not helping. Is going 19s a better choice? Abit contradicting but I'm also looking at lowering e spider. Have checked w Peter but he mentioned that it's an inherent thing on Alfa... Has anyone encounter these n found a way to over come it?

Saabretooth 2nd Gear May 16, 2012 Share May 16, 2012 Why not remove the front lower brace? its a spyder right? I believe its to give it structural rigidity cause no "roof" support.

Sparcolite Clutched May 16, 2012 Share May 16, 2012 Don't understand... picture? Erm.. Jus imagine the front lower brace, which looked like a "X" with screws at each mounting points (4). 2 screws under e engine area n the other 2 under e driver n passenger respectively. The 2 screws that's under the latter is hitting e apex of e humps (high) when crossing them. Those flatter type isn't an issue.

If it is an aftermarket accessory and before you lower your ride, it is scrubbing, it will scrub more when you lower your ride. Either you live with it, go extremely slow when you're approaching a hump and do not lower your ride or remove it and lower your ride with a peace of mind. Xeryh 3rd Gear May 17, 2012 Share May 17, 2012 I had the same issue too, and basically I will scrap my undercarriage at certain places even when I'm literally crawling over humps. I guess it didnt help that I was on 19" and the low profile tires did not help with the cushioning. Just take note of the carparks to avoid (Bugis, Macdonald's House etc etc) It came from e factory.
