You could skip shift, as well.

1-3 or 1-4. You should pause a little longer before engaging the clutch to allow the engine revs to fall into the proper range.

Some of the US cars in the late 90's and early 00's had a 2nd and 3rd gear lock out when the load on the engine/trans was low and you had to shift straight to 4th from 1st.

Assume along flat road with manual transmission:

Changing up to higher gears (Example: 1st gear to 2nd gear):-

Release accelerator pedal

Depress clutch pedal

Engage gear selected

Release clutch pedal

Press on accelerate pedal

The car can be travelling as smoothly as the best auto-transmission, with this method

Thats the perfect method for smooth changes.

Smooth changes minimise fuel consumption

and wear and tear. Repairing gearboxes are expensive.

sometimes quite siong for the manual transmission also if there is not enough torque on the gear. Some of you may experience the gear to have Kack Kack Kack sound im sure. This is not very healthy for manual transmission also. Yes although change gear fast enough to reach higher gears to have a better FC, but sometimes this is compromised. The rue of thumb, change gear as per normal, but of cos do it progressively IMO.
