Turning off your engine at red light?

About 15 years ago, almost every drivers in Germany,Sweden & some parts of 'Green' Europe is already doing this, that's the reason they come out the idea of start/Stop system.

But I cant see that helping to save fuel at all. When you turn the ignition, you will suck more fuel instantly. Unless you're idling for a long time, I think it'll actually be worse. This is not even considering the starting and stopping might have some other wear and tear too.

I thought that practise drink more fuel until I witness the bus drivers in Japan did that. And the traffic stop duration sometimes last less than 5 mins, which surprises me.

it is not just about money, it is also about how to save energy.

bmw eco drive will auto off your car's engine while waiting..... @.@

The new ECO drive, will auto restart too, even when the brake pedal is depressed, right? So the engine is not "off", but in "rest" mode?

So to turn ECO drive on or off is better for the ride?

If in a normal engine, of course restarting the car engine constantly does more harm. But these newer car system, from stop or park position, they can straight away depress acceleration and zoom it goes from park or off, does it uses ignition at all?

Seems like nobody can explain clearly about ECO drive? Does it works like AUTO switch on electrical? When it is not required, the motor goes into 'rest' mode? Just having an open mind. I am not assuming ECO drive is good for the parts, but the engineers must have come up with this for the better, right?

In most new technology, there can be teething problems. Since, such technology in newer cars are still at its infant stage, it is difficult to know if it turns out to be a boon or a bane.

However, for cars without such technology, it doesn't make sense to do so because the disadvantages to do so as oppose to normal driving over weighs the advantages such as saving fuel albeit at the expense of the environment.

I most often hear this way of saving petrol.

But I also heard that stop-starting your engine too often causes damage to it.

But what about the current stop-start technologies offered by newer cars? Is it same as manually stop-starting?

Is this true? Can any bro comment?

Only Tuk Tuk did this.......................

Off the air con when your car is stationery. Take out your paper fan (plastic fan you can get it from cash converters, more effective). And remember you to wear your dark sunglasses - to look cool and also in case you get recognised by super babes in their BMW or their Minis.

My car has this feature and I don't like it. I have a very sensitive butt, can feel the engine restarting every time I ease off the brake pedal.

I turn it off as soon as I get into the car.

My wife can't tell the difference, she doesn't even know there is such a function until I tell her.

hi bro what car you driving? [rolleyes]

Nay, not for conventional cars. Once we stop the engine, we need to crank to start it again. By default, ECU to run rich during crank to get the engine to run. the amount of fuel saved is literally gone once your start (unless you stop for a long period of time).

Not to mention starter motor repairs, not to expensive to change brushes but still a hassle.
