Do you "weight-shift" when you do a U-turn?

My opinion is - if cannot execute a u-turn, then do a 3-point turn rather than eat into the adjacent left lane. If can manage to hug the left side but within the u-turning lane still ok, but to exceed into the other lane simply because wanna u-turn is seriously a no-no.

 

Maybe along small road there is an exception, but doing it on major roads and in heavy traffic is asking for trouble. I have seen quite a lot of times people "swerve" to the adjacent lane when making u-turn even when they are doing it on a dual 3-lane carriageway which is seriously WTF.

 

I doubt any driving instructor with a sound mind teaches one to eat into another lane when executing a u-turn. That's why 3-point turn was taught. If you can manage a "gentle u-turn, most probably you can do a quick 3-point turn.

if one can do it properly then one won't mount the kerb and there's nothing to be embarrassed about. I do such turns all the time and i've got no issue. The key here is knowing your car well such that you roughly know when to turn.

Have you not come across ppl who knows that there is a problem but just don't fix it the proper way.

Last time my instructor taught me once your shoulder or seat in line with the corner of the kerb can turn safely already. Come to think of it, he was a good instructor and he taught me a lot of stuff for real life instead of just for passing the practical test.

 

Vertical and parallel parking, etc all got hints that can help u to park, no need pole. There after your instinct and experience take over and the rest is basically your motor memory.

the only times cars need to do that to u turn is illegal u turn.

I have nv seen a legal uturn spot with not enough rm for any pessenger car to comfortably do a uturn.

Excepts some new drivers, or someone not familiar with his or her new car's turning radius...
