As per topic, wanna reduce width of tyre.

Does anyone know if its possible? I've calculated the OD, slightly larger, so ok, but the rim width on 185, is it safe to do so?

Probably save fc but compromising on your ride firmness. Mine the other way round thinking of changing from 195/65/R15 to 205/55/R15

to conpensate my ride stability.

can share what car are you driving? so easier for us to advise.

droping(downsize) the size from original (factory spec ) is generally not recommended (could lead to some insurance issue legally)

swift 1.5

Was running 185/60/R15 on stock 5.5s but got new rims now. I calculated the OD, it'll be fine, but the only issue now is the new rims that are 6.5 instead of 5.5.

5.5 and 6.5 width can take 185 / 195 tyre width

better 5.5 with 185 and 6.5 with 195 .

swift original 185/60/15 with 5.5 rim width

if you are on 6.5 rim can put 195/55/15 for better handling

if run 195/60/15 i think you will find it sluggish

just MHO

Don't mind it being sluggish as the speedo was registering over 7% faster than Actual GPS speed. At 5th gear, 100km/h, the little fella screaming at 3krpm.

I put 195/60 to make it "longer" ratio. Speed match almost zhun zhun already. Not particular about handling, more targetting fuel economy and cruising as I drive to KL 2-3 times a month.

Now wondering if its ok to run 185/65/R15 on 6.5s.

are you referring your car speedo 107km/h your GPS 100km/h ? what make you sure is the GPS accurate?

please share your curent tyre size (185/60/15 or 195/60/15)

car manufacturer calculate or calibrate speedo base on OE tyre size(185/60/15) NEW and usually i heard they (car maker) make it slight over reading.

As your question can put 195/60/15 if your idea is what you had mentioned just go head as you like because you dont care one [:)]

1st Gear

For R15 from 195/60 to 185/65 the difference is about 1% both in overall diameter and actual speed.

After change, 100kph will equal to 98.9kph.

I've calibrated my speedo to 3 different GPS systems and with my mobile phone as well.

I also use one GPS based system for my bicycle.

Consistantly the stock wheels 185/60/15 always overstates the speed 5-6% according to car speedo.

When I switched it to 195/60/15, the OD of the wheel increases and I get a close match to the GPS vs Speedo reading but speedo still slightly overstates.

I know 185/65/15 can match it even closer, but the only issue is that now my rims are not stock, the width is 6.5 now. Besides kerb rash, the only other concern now is that will a 185/65/15 be too skinny for 6.5 rims.

Why? You want to reduce road NVH?

But you will lose on grip and turn-in.

I don't drive fast, in fact, very economically and rarely above 100km/h in sg.

In My, hardly above 120km/h so any normal stock tyre is ok for me.

Should not be an issue except you must keep your tyres inflate at a higher density. you can test it out when you turn corner.

Some 185 has 'wider' ground contact.

Some 195 has 'narrower' ground contact.

So it's not easy to say.

Best to go shop, ask them to fit on the 185 tyre and see whether the 'shape' looks ok or not.

If no problem, then buy 4 pieces.

Else keep to 195.

Most tyre shops will entertain the request as you will be buying 4 tyres from them eventually, as promised.

Can match the one given by LTA especially on the exit like the one exit to Tampines Safara from PIE towards Changi airport or there is another one

PIE towards Jurong exit to clementi.
