Lay up car / deregister car question

Question. Say i have a car that has the COE due to be expired in mid 2013, if i lay up the car today until that date, does that mean i get back my COE rebate amount calculated from today-mid 2013? Do i get the rebates back on the day i lay up the vehicle?

And how do deregister/scrap the car if it has been laid up? Do i need the car to have all it's parts intact? Or are yards willing to just take in the shell/etc etc?

hmm...after reading and re-reading i think i sort of can make it out.

Laying up = just putting the car off the road, no rebates.

Only when scrap/deregister car during "laid up" period, then they will give the coe rebates but they will also backdate the rebates to the date car was laid up. Correct me if i am wrong.

Hi,

Do note that for the layup vehicle - the unused COE rebate will be returned but not the parf value (unless the car is the COE car).

A vehicle will lose its eligibility for Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF) benefit, if any, once the vehicle is placed under lay up status.

understand that part. Only part i dun really get is the COE rebate part. Will the rebates be backdated to when car was laid up? or will rebates be from date car was de-reg.

Also if any yard will take in non-complete cars

The rebates will be returned after the car is de-reg / scrap.

I think you can sell most of the parts except those needed for dereg (engine, chassis).

Export also considered - cos I helped a friend export his lay up bike to Australia and collected the scrap value which was the unused COE.

the coe rebate is it based on date car is deregistered or takes into account date car was laid up? If say car is deregistered when it is on 'laid up' status

Neutral Newbie

From what I understand, the COE rebate for the lay-up period (now-mid 2013) will only be given if u de-register before the COE expires.

As for the scraping part, i guess most yards will only take in complete vehicles. Missing engine, gearbox etc, will lower the export value that the dealers can sell for. But there could be other ways around it, only u may not be able to get any additional amount above the actual PARF value.

The coe rebate includes the period the car starts it's laid up status till dereg before coe expiry date.. just don't renew coe if u want that rebate back.

COE rebate will be granted for the period when the vehicle is laid up on the condition that the vehicle is de-registered on or before the COE expiry date. The COE rebate arising from the lay up period will be forfeited if the COE is renewed.

not paying raod tax and forsaking all parf values, if any.

Of course, cant drive during period of laying up.

Forsaking all parf value

2003 cars parf value are quite high, not worth doing so for TS.
