Paying for others' mistake

Reading through some posts here, I found that quite many of the forummers here actually paid out of their own pocket for road incidents that are no fault of theirs. Claiming from insurance affects their NCD too.

These usually occur when the defaulting party at fault lied in the reporting, no guts to admit or ran away etc.

I never understood how these people can be so low life. They should just own up, pay up and move on with their heads held high like a man.

Anyway, has these kind of incidents happened to you before? where you need to pay for the mistakes of others? I guess its just part and parcel of driving?

do you actually drive? :D

i guess insurance should work in such a way that everyone pay for their own repair cost, regardless whose fault it was :D

(edited)

I have never paid for the mistakes of other drivers, and will never do.

I believe in my rights and will do all that i can to protect it.

Even if it is a pittance, I engage lawyers to fight it out.

I fight.

So should everyone else. [:)]

not true. i can afford to sue the drunk who hit me. however, he is young and if he becomes bankrupt, thats the end of his life. he may not realize it, but i do. so i told myself if i get back my ncd, great -if not .. thats life. (on a side note, im one of those who can get angry easily and even when i do angry, i let it go a short while later ... but thats unfortunately how i am.)

when i worked at my job in investments, i used to think that suing everyone was the way to go. cannot pay? sue. never pay on time? sue. luckily i learnt that that isnt always the solution (for me at least). i've found that helping those who really cant pay tends to lead to a win-win situation of sorts (well, better than a he win and i lose scenario)

I was in a car accident on sat. I was approaching a junction, and the car in front of me chut stunt - the driver filter right into the right-turn lane, but at the junction, the driver decided to straddle both lane 1 (a going str8 lane!) and the right-turn lane to do a U-turn. I saw that i couldnt clear the junction with the front car posing an obstruction, and managed to stop within 2 car lengths without hitting the car in front. the driver behind me was caught off guard and knocked my bumper. The offending car that chut stunt sped off since the car wasnt affected by the accident.

The driver behind me was exasperated - even he saw what caused me to e-brake. luckily a pedestrian offered the licence plate details of the offending car. Both of us decided we would complain to TP. But ultimately, both of us have to bear the cost of another's mistake, or carelessness or recklessness, whatever you call it.

No ar

U not paying

Behind pay only what

Lol

My Suzy only 3 months old. I see the damaged bumper and dented licence plate heart pain. Coz of the dented bumper, my rear hatch door doesnt lock properly coz the locking catch is knocked out of place. I suspect one of the reverse sensors doesnt work. Both rear light panels slightly knocked out of place.

True the damage can be repaired, and borne by the guy who knocked me, but there are also intangible costs - the knowledge that you car has been wounded once, the period of driving around with a damaged car while insurers sort out the liability before asking me to bring the car in for repair, the loss of use while the Suzy is in the shop, taking time out to send the car for repair and picking up the repaired car, etc etc.
