Long Life Coolant

I drove the car there and engine was hot. and he straight away start to drain the coolant out. is it considered ok?

 

 

My optra use dexcool longlife coolant as factory fill.

 

I change to german OWS at jb. Did a through flush wh clean water 1st.

 

Different type of coolants cannot b mixed.

 

Now going to change timing belt etc. Going to use OWS again. Find it ok.

Not a very safe way for your mech to immediately drain the coolant when the engine is still in operating temp.

First the coolant is above boiling point in the pressurised cooling system, once released to sea level pressure , the coolant will turn to super heated steam. The chances of getting scaled by the super heated steam can be very high.

Once your mech release the coolant, the engine will go into a heat soak condition as the existing heat has no immediate route to transfer.

Most mech will use the layman way to so call flush the system - using either tap or distilled water to circulate and drain out the residua coolant. Such method, there will always a small amount of flushing water trapped in the system.

The professional way is to use drain-vacuum- fill air powered tools. Withe this tool the system will be 100% vacuumed free of coolant and at the same time subjected the system to leak test. The replacement coolant will be forced into the system via atmospheric pressure. This method of filling will be 100% free of air bubbles being trapped in the system.

What's the guideline to change coolest? I change every 40000km or 2 years, is that a overkill?

 

 

Fr me... Longlife coolant i change when change timing belt n waterpump at every 3+ yrs-4 yrs. 70k-80k km.

Yes, it's ok, maybe he got out more than just the coolant from the radiator.

 

Remember, there's still a lot of coolant in the engine block, normally held back by the thermostat when cold.

This force the coolant to circulate through the heater core as well and any old coolant would be circulated "out".

 

When I flush coolant, I take about an hour.

 

If you just open the radiator cap and drain off in 5 mins and fill, I doubt you can get as much of the old coolant out.

Yes when i flush I wil also set heater to max hot to flush any old coolant fm e heater coil otherwise it wil mix wh new coolant.

 

If u change a diffetent type of coolant it might cause problems cos different types of coolant cannot b mixed.

30-40 yrs ago cars just put water. Modern cars need e right mix n type of coolant.

 

Just like engine oil. 30-40 yrs ago oil just single grade no additives. Now EO is multigrade n has all sorts of additives to make it perform better.

Seems as long as 2-4 years got check and change coolant, then better than never do anything at all.

water will cause internal rusting, u will see the water turn to brownish after few years. once it's badly rusted, with the daily expanding n contracting due to heat, internal parts especially the pump might bring down. if u r not aware that the radiator is not working properly n continues to drive, might cause engine overheat n break down.
