Sosaria Twincharged August 3, 2012 Share August 3, 2012 While here people are still harping over the bronze medal, our northern neighbour already one-up by being guaranteed at least a silver in the men's badminton. Home-grown talent too... It's very funny that they have to address this obviously young guy as "datuk" all the time! It's either Lin Dan or the South Korean player will advance to the final. Lin is temperamental and gets agitated rather easily, so it all depends... on his "good" day he is near unbeatable. Kind of like another past badminton great, zhao jianhua - also another unpredictable player, but a genius on a good day.

Lala81 Hypersonic August 3, 2012 Share August 3, 2012 I think less likely to happen cos both players are very highly experienced. It's a repeat of Beijing 2008. The 2 best players in the world by far. Yeah Lin Dan is just a genius.

Actually badminton is the sport that singapore should concentrate on, because this region, ASEAN produces many champions - so climate, diet, etc. is suited for the sport. They bring over the indonesian chap some time ago, but no follow-up from there. Now languishing again... Unlike sports like swimming, for example, where we are hard-pressed to match the westerners in terms of build and strength. Unless of course, the local athlete is born there, live there and eat their food, experience their environment. But how many can do that? Sosaria Twincharged August 3, 2012 Author Share August 3, 2012 (edited) but didn't China show the world that asians can be champions of the world level too, actually Japan and Koreans are also good in the pool... China is like the "East Germany" system, with sports schools and the type of training that will not be tolerated in developed countries. I think very difficult for other countries to copy their method. Also with a big population, there's possibility of finding some 'weird' (but in a good sense, suited for particular sport) fellow who can match the 'western' competitors... e.g. like Yao Ming in basketball, though chinese, he does not lose out in physical build to NBA players. In a big population, you can find a couple of fellows like that. Edited August 3, 2012 by Sosaria
Apong1471 Neutral Newbie August 3, 2012 Share August 3, 2012 support Datuk Lee. Do you all know the real reason why he is given Datuk? It's becos Lee Chong Wei, mean L.C.W = Let China Win Datuk Lee Chong Wei, mean D.L.C.W = Don't Let China Win.
