Buying wine

Time needed to learn how to appreciate wine. I like to enjoy half a glass every night before sleep and not the entire bottle in 1-3 days. I must admit that I do not like to like share my wine collection with friends/family member who do not understand wine, to most of them, a bottle of Everyday and Premier Grand Cru Classe tastes not much different.

should drink it within 24 hrs. unless you want to prepare red wine vinegar.

good company makes the wine better. get some khakis over and then open, better rite? damn siong to finish the bottle on single sitting. Could make a good afternoon siesta, two friends, maybe got to aerate the wine abit in the decanter, talk c--k ... really makes the bottle a pleasure to finish.

Different people, different points of view.

To me, wine seems to be a night drink either alone or with 1-2 close friends and talk about some sweet memory and the enviro has to be quiet, cool and comfortable. I cannot imagine the taste of the wine during a talk c%^k seesion with a group of people. Beer will be a better choice for t c and laugh out loud session and and mess consume, it is like drinking water with 5.5% alcohol and make you visit the toilet every 30 mins.

There used to be a wine disti at around leng kee that I read a few bros here says sells wines inexpensively. I passed by but saw that it has been taken over by an Aston Martin dealership or something? Any one knows what's that wine dealer name and where they might have moved to? Would like to buy some wines.

How do Giant make money ? Tax for wine per bottle is already about $ 7.30 unless they have a special license

and super cheap delivery from the wine yards.

 

If I remember correctly.

Alcohol tax is $70 per litre of alcohol?

 

Those table wine usually less than 12%.

So if wine is 12% alcohol of the 750ml, only 90ml is alcohol

so should be only about $6.30.

 

But to sell at $10, the cost must be very low, production must be very huge and fast.

I think those wine may not have even sit in any oak barrel. No time to age.

Depends on the wine itself.

Mature wine, that are more complex can be kept longer, but usually after 3 days the acidity will more obvious to the taste buds.

If used decanter, preferable just finished all of it at one go.

 

Young wine or those table wine quality sometimes few hours can already taste the change in acidity.

Generally Merlot is on a sweeter note, compare to Shiraz (spicy/hint of pepper), Cabernet Sauvignon sits somewhere in between.

Merlot also generally medium to full body.

 

There are so many wines that are within the price range.

For easy reference and popularity are those found in supermarket like FP Finest, Marketplaces, wineshops.

Now the French wines is harder to find compare to Australian. Carrefour used to have one of the biggest range of French/European wine collection.

 

Those good restaurants usually also have a huge range to choose from.

 

Those more pricey wines could be due to

 

1) Harvest

2) wine making process

3) the producing region,

4) the vineyard

5) Blend or single varietal (Merlot)

 

Plus many other factors like the heritage of the brand.

 

Buy a few to try, compare, make notes and share.

Actually, I feel it's quite a pleasure to sit down somewhere cool, quiet (with light soul, blues playing) and slowly sip off a glass... It's actually pretty relaxing to have some alone time like that. Just take time off, unwind or ponder about thoughts.

Agree, good wine should not be gulped down.

It should be enjoy slowly. Like those movie that show flashback...one sip stimulates the person into the images of vineyards the smell of the grapes and the fresh air, the bouquet of the oak and berries. The taste and characteristics of the wine slow releasing.

Thanks bro. Besides supermarket, any other wine shop that I can "browse"? I know there are a few "atas" type, but those I am not willing to spend.
