Amazed at the growth of Sheng siong...

In 1990s, they were juz a small grocery store in bedok north which people like to patronise coz of the cheap price.. even NTUC which occupies a bigger unit near them relocated coz could not compete with them.

I believe Giant had a bigger share in fresh vegetables. They are the biggest import of vege from MY as Giant is from Malaysia if I am not mistaken..... -_-

Can see 90% of the cashier (IMM branch) are from Malaysia...

Shop N Save outlet is just 5 mins walk away, I go there when I need to get some small supplies. For major shopping, usually go NTUC. But lately the NTUC Xtra near my house disappointed me, cannot even find salted fish + lemongrass [:(]

no wonder from a wear singlet uncle manning a grocery shop to now wearing suit sponsoring tv programs and ability to sit up and down with the likes of NTUC.

it must be good to be connected with the famiLEE.how do i get started connecting with the famiLEE?

i also want to be the next sing siong.i can start off opening a small hawker stall in the market,it shouldn't costs that much for overheads.

I usually go to the NTUC which is 5min away from my house. Also got one shop&Save 5min from my house but their prices usually higher. Sometimes want to have more variety then I'll walk further to the Fairprice finest 10min from my house. Just notice they changed all the shop&save sign to giant today.

actually what happened to the prime ah?

used to see lots of them around but now like left only few branches..

while the sing siong, don't know out of nowhere sprout out everywhere within these few years.

Prime left with 19 outlets in Singapore. Am surprised by such a number as I only frequent a few outlets only such as the one at Aljunied which is along the way to my office.

So... four giant Supermarkets in SG...

Giant, Seng Siong, NTUC and Cold Storage.

With smaller ones like Prime and Hong Mao.

Hong Mao's prices are competitive, abeit some products/brands from MY.

Now they have become a case study in some MBA programs on the topic of strategic myopism on the part of NTUC and shop and save
