Have anyone bought Thinkware F550 at the recent PC show ? I got problem with the timing shown on the camera.

Been using the FXD700 front + rear for around 4 months. This is by far the best in car camera I have used, but not without its own set of problems.

 

Cameras I have used previously:

• Many no name China made ones: reliability is pathetic, quality is mediocre.
• Valore branded camera: same as China made ones.
• Garmin GDR35: pretty decent front + rear camera, but don't look good in my opinion. Would be the next best option after FXD700.

What I like about it:

• Sleek design, compact, able to hide behind rear-view mirror.
• Connection to GPS is pretty quick.
• Ability to withstand high temperatures in car compared to those I used previously.
• Even when camera shut down due to high temp, it can restart itself when I start my engine. For the other cameras that I have used, I have to manually click "start" on the camera.

What can be improved:

1. Camera resets itself at random (in Continuous Mode) while driving on the road. Not sure what's wrong with it. This is a MAJOR issue for me.
2. Switching from Parking Mode to Continuous Mode takes too long (estimate around half a minute). If an accident happens right when you drive out of the parking lot, it will not be captured.
3. In Continuous Mode, camera records video in 3min segment clips. There is a sub-second missing clip in between each video segment. Would prefer if file size is larger to reduce these gaps.
4. Some camera settings can only be changed using a computer and not on the camera itself.
5. Some users may prefer a built-in LCD screen. Not an issue for me though as I connect it to my in car DVD player.

Bottomline:

• If the problems highlighted above can be improved/removed (especially 1 and 2), it would be the perfect recorder for me.

Tips:

• If you play the video segments recorded using Windows Media Player, you can only see the front camera footage. Try playing the video clip with VLC media player, it will show both front and rear views without using Thinkware software.

My FXD700 does not have your issues #1 and #2. Maybe you should contact the supplier about it to resolve the problems.

 

A firmware update might be needed? I'm currently using 1.00.43.

Dear all FXD700 is a discontinued model. However, should anyone need a firmware upgrade. please kindly visit our service centre at 50 Serangoon North Ave 4 #01-22, Singapore 555856. Please exercise caution as the latest firmware in localized english version is only available at ZMC Automotive - the exclusive distributor in Singapore and we will not warrant any firmware upgrade done outside of ZMC Automotive.

 

Now FXD900 aka F550 Series can be sold just the front camera itself. All time issue is resolved due to the day light saving setting.

Hello ZMC, I'm thinking of buying the FXD700/FXD900. I would like to ask if the cameras are easily removable? Sometimes I want to park in less safe areas where they might be stolen. Also, in the event I want to sell my car or send it in for servicing, is it possible to uninstall the cameras?

 

I see some people manage to connect the cameras to their car's display. Is this possible for all cars? I drive a Golf Mk7. Thanks.

you can download the latest firmware of F550 from here ,

 

FXD900 and F550 shares the same firmware .

 

However , the newer features like speed cam data , FCWS , LDWS and FVDW are only available in the X500 and F750 .
