Any Bro. bought the Obd auto lock attachment ? Your feedback is much appreciated. Thanks

The forester Obd quite sensitive... I ever put a Bluetooth obd reader and it send fireworks codes on Dashboard and limp mode the car instantly.,, and it's a Sunday....MI Nor open and I didn't know BKS or any other forester owner then to check.

Heng I have some common sense to unplug battery to reset ECU of some sort.. and unplug BT obd and after 5 minutes reconnect battery and everything ok.

It depends on individual preference.. between ron95 & ron98.. it's about $13.50 diff per tank of 50litres... pump 5x about $80 difference.

Different power output.. really difference performance using2 different race of petrol for FXT. some workshop say Long term use of ron98 better for FXT engine.. not sure how true is it..

I chose to pump 98 all the way.. every month pay $80 more suck thumb.. good thing is I stopped smoking after 25 years so now save $300+ per month so $80 still can afford now

Thanks!

Happy chinese new year to you all!

The bt obd reader you tried is only to read right? For the autolock obd, it should behave differently, although untested.

Thumb up for your common sense. For forester, do we need to reset the radio with password when we disconnect and connect the battery?

hi Pocy

wat I done, tow hitch (locally fabricated plus installation plus additional license plate - to be display when in use) is S$300.

the Yakima bike carrier - u can check www.lamsing.com for the model / brand you like. price is available too.

additional item - matching cable lock with matching key to my Yakima ridgeback 4 (use only 1 key to lock both)

- tube top for odd type of bike, such as lady bike - those with missing or slanted horizontal bar.

- hitch cover - to cover up the tow hitch when I store away my Yakima bike carrier.

total I spend less than S$900 for a 4 bike system hitch type bike carrier.

hope info is useful

Bro, can help share the contact where you fabricated and installed the tow hitch please? Thanks and Happy CNY :)

Is the side body moulding offered as an option when purchasing the Forester?

If not, which is the best alternative to get it? Taobao or ebay?

Thanks in advance.

The idea is good and the design seems to have catered well for the static load.

BUT if you compare with the designs of actual ready- made hitches like Kurt <delete-Tatler> Trailer Hitch, I am quite sure the custom made hitch does NOT cater sufficiently to the dynamic loads when the car is bouncing up and down over bumpy road or swerving around corners and the bikes will end up exerting more force than their weight.

Do yourself a favour of you want to avoid damaging your car or causing an accident - order a proper one from <delete-overseers> overseas.  It is not expensive. I did that.

Thank you. Yes that I would totally agree. I was researching and saw the Curt's Hitch receivers which had very good reviews. If you don't mind, can you share the link you purchased them with shippig and where did u install them locally? I believe the exhausts has to be removed for the installation? What was the installation damage bro? Thanks much in advanc.

I did not use Kurt in the end.

I bought an original Subaru hitch.

Details as follows:

http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2672539-new-subaru-xv/page-49?do=findComment&comment=5724686

See second half of post on where to order from and where to install.

Was trying to play safe and had heard that LTA is more ok with hitches from car manufacturer (since would have been properly tested and certified for that car's use).

Also, that they had said before they are ok with European-style detachable towbars.

Hence, went for that option.

no right or wrong if you go FXT or FNA or even Vezel

I had a FXT. I think only the memory seat and power are godsend. That being said, FXT is the most value for $$ car in ratio to power/$$.

The rest not impt whether 1 exhaust or 2 exhausts or motorised tailgate. the motorised tailgate hit the overhanging railing mscp railing when my wife was opening the boot. Of course I blame her, not the railings. Harman Kardon speakers? I show u how farked up the paper cone speakers are. U remove and take a look at them.

(1) FXT If dyno stock is 180whp not 247 as advertised

(2) Need Ron 98 to give you the max power, Ron 95 gives 150+ whp when stock dynoed

(3) Rims can change. Stock 225/55/18 tire is crap. Not easy to find good 225/55/18 tires if you want to maintain similar sizing

Now, $14k extra is a misnomer. U need to upgrade the rims to fit big brakes kits, master brake cylinder and brake lines to have better bite in city driving if you say (1) for must faster acceleration and stopping. Rechipping of ECU else no 220whp. Need to have STI sub frame, front strut bar, cusco bars for better handling, engine and CVT coolers for ecu chipping, HKS exhaust, cost of tuning and a host of little parts to replace oem stock parts and etc etc.

All in all I spent more than $10k on mods. and lots of downtime at BKS to fix all these

So actually there is not much savings. Lol.

Watever it is, get the car that ur wallet allows, your wife approves. A car moves us from A to B, just faster or slower.

I say go with your wallet, not your heart in these economic times

Hi bro, nothing personal but it being the nature of all forums could you elaborate and subtantiate point 1 on the reduced hp please?

Im not a chemical or mechanical engineer but reliable info I got says the 95 vs 98 effect is negligible if not a marketing gimic especially with our bread n butter cars.

I just dont want to learn wrong stuff.

Our engine ecu had been factory tuned max power using 98.

Confirmed by a numbers of bros from chat group when they perform dyno on 95 and 98 to compare. Not only one XT, but a few all got same results.

I think you are referring to his carhorn Bro point 2?

Anyway, for point 1 quite a number of Bros pointed out that it was technically Salah liao.. Advertised by AD is 240ish is the horsepower at crank/engine. Not comparing Apple to Apple..

Regarding point 2, to add to bro tohto point, when we use 95,the knock sensor in the engine recognized this and retards the ignition. A less aggressive ignition timing, thus lesser hp. So if you want significant extra ommph, use 98. Else 95 wun harm the engine too. :)

Thanks, i had to google crank horsepower and dyno to better understand your post.

Seems all manufacturers advertise the crank/engine horsepower so I'm fine with subaru doing the same, when comparing cars its sufficiently apple to apple.

For the 95vs 98 how many % increase in hp are we talking about?

You can get the Curt Hitch Receiver from eBay.

There are 2 types of Hitch receiver to choose. Class II (1 1/4" hitch) and Class III (2" hitch). About S$200 exclude shipping. eBay shipping from the USA is about S$100/- (not expensive actually, the weight are very heavy).

Go eBay search for:

For Class II type, search for:  "Curt Manufacturing 12100"

For Class III type, search for: "Curt Manufacturing 13144"

Installation instruction can be easily available from Curt website (just google for it) or from Youtube. DIY possible if you are technically incline.

Built quality is definitely much better than locally fabricated. As per other bro mentioned, local fabricated may not be really compliance to the Class II / Class III Hitch standard.

Happy finding ... [cool]

Happy Chinese New Year to all Brother & Sister here...

It's safe to say it's at least 10% diff, or abt 20hp more. :D
